So I was thinking that we maybe could get something started around here. I was wondering if anyone would be intersted in helping others work on their cars and getting it on the road. I thought maybe if you have a group of guys meet at someones house and they all work together for one day to get as much as they can done on the car to get it running. The host or the person that is having the help on the car would provide food drinks and snacks and then would go to the next help build to lend a hand. I know alot of you guys like to do the work yourself but there are others like me that are really new at building classics and have no clue what we are doing hahaha = ) I need to learn! plus I thought it would be cool to work next to some of you guys and shoot the shit! Ive seen this type of thing on here before but it looked more for the chops and body mods. Any thoughts? Is this lame?
Not lame, it's a good idea. You have to limit the number of participants though. I've had too many guys around tripping over each other all day. The host ends up chasing tools all day since no one else knows where he keeps his tools. Really, whether it's one buddy or 20 if someone is helping me with my ride, beer and food is always on me. That's just how Ya keep 'em coming back.
In the spring of 2004 there was one thrown for my car by Fab32 at his place and well over 20 guys showed up to help out. They came from Canada, OH, all over Michigan and one couple even drove over 17 hours one way just to work on Big Olds for one day! I brought all the food, drink and supplies for the car. Some HAMB friends that couldn't make it even sent money to help out. Way above and beyond. We had a GREAT time and got ALOT done. I am so grateful for the help. I also help organize a weekend chop of Stinkyfinger's car at Roadstar's place a couple of winters ago. More then 50 HAMB guys showed up to help and learn. It was pretty well documented on the HAMB. Mark, Stinkyfinger paid for everything, including HAMB Chop t-shirts that he designed and had printed for all the helpers. He still has the car which makes us all feel good that he didn't just chop the car then sell it. There was also another HAMB thrash on Lucky77's car last winter I think it was. I was unable to attend but I heard it was a HUGE sucess. Folks here in Michigan really enjoy helping each other out.
The Corpus Christi chapter of the Kreatures has 'em every 1st and 3rd Saturday. Rotating schedule, owner for the week presents a work scope, everybody brings specialty tools, or whatever's required. We call it a car club.
A bunch of us chipped in on the "HAMB Chop 2007". It was cool hanging with fellow HAMBers. Still friends with most of them.
yeah I got the idea from the hamb chop vid that looked like alot of fun. I dont want to sound like an asshole but I really need some help with gettin my Merc running and thought I could put something like this together and as I learn go out and help others. Anyone willing to help me out? Ill provide the beer, food, tools and what ever else is needed just promise to teach me what your doing = ) and if you ever need help ill come over and help you.
