Just got home...I had fun, took maybe 20 pictures....the place ****s for decent picture taking. Seemed very quiet there today too....not the huge crowds of previous years...but still a fun day out hanging with my Road Devil brothers & sidters.
Checked it out yesterday, was OK, but not the best I've ever seen. Had a friend with me who never has been to a custom show and he commented that the back buildings seemed a little more "real" as far as the cars. Got a chance to meet Alex Gambino and Alan from Billet Proof. Even got a chance to sign the HAMB banner (Thanks for tracking down a sharpie Alex). Here's a few of my shots, not the best quality. Oggie:
He's a relative local as he goes to The Asphalt Invitational etc round here...VERY cool car, awesome work on the Packard lights. Ask Jay (Jive Bomber) if he remembers the guy...
It is a guy by the name of JP I beleive, I love that wagon, and have talked to him many times, that wagon was the inspiration for me to finnish my '56 buick wagon.. He is out of the Concord Antioch Area I beleive, and the car was done by Marcos Garcia at Lucky 7... Hope that helps...If you look up Lucky 7 Custom Coach Works on google you will find a few pictures of it and a way to contact Marcos.
Should be funny while the big guys pull up with their Duallys and enclosed trailers, unpacking their custom made displays.......I will drive the Caddy from San Jose and take out my entire Kustom made (BY ME) display from the trunk. Should be a blast. I would challange any of those guys to DRIVE their Kustom to the Sac Show. I have meet them all over the last 6 years and they are very cool guys but that would be something to see. Brian[/quote] You, sir, are a RULER! I think that is the true spirit of an indoor show. As far as I'm concerned, a car show is a social event. It's great seeing new and old cars, but the owners are the event. Meeting old and new friends, making new ones, getting ideas and connections. End of observation-MIKE
I looked for the booth...but never found it...That explains that...I will say that the show this year was not that great...and there was alot of space left in the suede pavillion...There was some great cars...but not alot like the 2007 show...again there were not alot of vendors either like the "07" show...if i had to rate the show this year...id give it a 5 out of 10...
I haven't liked every one of Zocchi's cars, but I think his style is distinctive and attractively understated. I can't think of a builder (producer?) whose cars are consistently as good. "A little girly"... this from a guy with a lace-covered Kustom? Just kidding, Kirk, I'm disappointed that your '60 won't make the GNRS. I'm looking forward to seeing it. The Toyota pickup was built by Jeb Scolman at Richard Graves' shop for Toyota to show at SEMA. There's a lot of amazing work in it (the cab is narrowed something like a foot), and it looks pretty good in the flesh. Some of the unfortunate final details were specified by Toyota.
I agree...I was battling the lighting all day. I did manage to snap a few and posted 'em here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=234948 Sat. was pretty mellow, but it's hard to judge 'cause the Cow Palace is pretty spread out. Maybe the crowd was just following us...haha. The upside, less people in my pics and there were actually a couple beers left by the time we got the the Gambino Kustoms booth. As always, thanks to Alex and Suzie for the hospitality. Bryan
[Brian i wont be surprised after seeing these picutures that phat caddy is the kustom of the year winner!!!!!!!!quote=PhatCaddy;2496973]Yup. The Sacramento Autorama I will be competing for the 'Most Beautiful Kustom Award' at John Buck's request(owner of the GNRS,Sac,Seattle and Portland Shows). Johnny, Zocchi, Oz, Dore, I think there are 5 or 6 of us that will be showcased at the front entrance. Yes they are Dave!!! You truely are a Ruler!!! Your wagon looked great man, you and Max did an amazing job on it. You still at the same shop? PS: Welcome to the HAMB bro
We are VERY proud of that.... A HUGE thank you to Alex Gambino & crew for all their hard work to get the project underway.
