Hi All, Might be a dumb *** question, but my Caddy 331 came with a early ford ****** attached. I have swapped this for a Saginaw 4 speed, but now need to change the pilot bearing. The Speedway Flatty to Chev adapter comes with a small thin metal sleeve to go inside the early ford bushing. I dont like this as the fitment from the outside of the speedway bushing is loose in the Flatty busing currently on the Caddy. So I want to remove the Pilot bearing on the Caddy and then machine up an adapter to take a chevy size bearing. But..... How the hell do i get the old bearing off the Caddy 331 crank? It looks like you screw a bolt into the crank that then potentially unscrews/drives out the old bushing. Is this correct? If so anyone know what thread is inside the bushing? Thanks
Did this on my 331 a while ago, old trick, fill the hole in the center of the bush with greas, then get a steal or timber rod that fits snug in the hole, tap it in with a hamer, the bush should come out, also Willcap in C.A. ( LONG BEACH ) has the bush you need. Martin.
Great thanks, Im over in So-Cal for the weekend to go to GNRS so will pop into Wilcap and get the bearing. Thanks, will give that a try later today.
Yes he is hard to get a hold of sometimes.Try calling. On my 49 caddy with adaptors I used the stock hydro 331 bushing I think.
