This is off topic but I have a nephew that is a virgin to the world and he is married to a gal in the NAVY (by two weeks) who is being transferred to San Diego, specifically El Cajon and am asking for any help looking for a decent neighborhood or area that a respectable young boy and his newlywed wife could reside?????? As I said he is an innocent, grandson of a long time HAMBer and life long hot rodder "WEEKENDER" ( not to mention his favorite grandson) looking to find place to live that they will not be robbed blind on a regular basis!! He has street smarts except the one between his legs that told him to get married and make this move to "VATOVILLE" as I have heard. PLEASE HELP in just a general direction! My sister is about to drive me nuts because I am the only one to have FLOWN THE COUP in my family and this is her baby!!! He has a desire to work on cars but is in the TUNER STAGE but as my dad said " Id rather have them working on imports than doing drugs,,,, At least it is a car " LOOKING FOR ANY HELP ON THE GENERAL LAYOUT OF THE TOWN OR AREA!!!!! Thanks Tim McCray (706)364-4372 hm (706)533-6798 cell days
North Pacific Beach or Wind and Sea..........there are some Apts. in the area that are good..........Just tell him to stay away from the border.....the rent is cheap, but not the best place to live.........Lakeside is a kind of decent area from what I remember........cars in the yard and everyone looking out for each other. You might PM "Killer" here on the HAMB.....I am pretty sure that he is in SoCal. Chris Nelson Kansas I lived in SD in the early 90's, but alot has changed since then.
I grew up on Lindsey St in ElCajon. Was not bad at all back in the 70's. Don't know about now. The street was within walking distance of both the junior high and high school I went to and I could ride my bike to the mall. I fell in love with hot rods cruzn Second back then.
Vatoville? I guess one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. El Cajon does have a few seedy areas. For San Diego county we refer to it as east county which includes more or less Lakeside and Santee which over the years has had the reputation to be more or less our lifted truck part of town. It has a lot of good areas also, if they drive around theyll be able to tell where not to move into really quick. Also most of our auto performance related business reside in East County.... lots of industrial areas. Its not a bad area whatsoever. 25 minutes to the beach...25 minutes to the mountains. R
El Cajon all the way. Just get them on the north side of the freeway. Anywhere above broad way should be ok.
El Cajon is interesting, had some good times there. Lakeside ,Santee are a good bet. When they get off base housing, they might give them a list of approved housing.
Thanks!! I'l pass it on to the new world travelers. He was worried about the auto theft rate he had heard about out there.
I traveled for 13 years, 3-6 mos. in each spot. I would stop at the chamber of commerce and ask which apartment complexes were safe and which were not. They would gladly tell me.
My brother lives there, rents a house just south of the freeway, near the Dennys ( I forget the exit). Anyway, he's been happy there, I can't contact him now, he's on the USS Nimitz right now.
You can PM me, but as stated, there are good and bad areas. It might scare newbies due to the number of homeless/lowlifes on bikes and walking, but it's not too bad. Keep your stuff locked and have a low profile. Being in service, he needs to talk to fellow govt. people about what's out there and what to watch for. If there is a seller next door, avoid it. You can tell by the number of "friends" that come over after 10 PM.
East county north of the 94 freeway are nowhere near Vatovill. Santee, El Cajon, lakeside. and my fav. place Lemon Grove (lemon grove sucks for good rental areas though) are all good areas. Just remember this county has about 5 million people in it so no matter where he goes he needs to be on his toes... PS: Stay away from PB OB and MB (beach comunities) Have all turned into weekend hell holes full of drunks and A-holes.
Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach and Mission Beach.....all wonderfull communities and exactly where we hung out on the weekends. This makes me sad.
Vatoville? Is this next to Boog-town? Jeez. Let him figure things out for himself. If he's really that green, it sounds like he could use a few lessons.
Unfortunately true. I am born and raised in Pacific Beach. I cant even stand driving through there, cept to stop off at Lefty's and get ma hair cut. The wife and I bought a house in Santee about 4 years ago, and the neighborhoods here are GREAT! Quiet, lots of rodders and regular ole families. Its a little hot in the summertime, but thats what AC is for- and the rent is reasonable.
He is very" GREEN " and yes he will figure it out himself, but he is my nephew and like a son to me. I am trying to get him off to a good start so he does not have a bad experience right off the bat. This will be a a big enough lesson in his life without landing in town and having everything he has stolen in the first two damn days he is there. But that would be a good lesson right? Thank you for all the input from everyone. He and his mom are lurkers here from a long family of Hot Rodders. I knew this would be the place to get good input from respectable people. ( dont start on the respectable coment ). I may have a reason to make a trip out west now and see the western version of the HAMB scene. And again thanks!!
By the way HUDSONCUSTOM nice Merc, is it a 49, 50 or 51. Ive always loved them. Any way there are some pic's of it here on the HAMB?
Hey I am STEWED and the car next to my name is,, wait for it ,, a Henry J. I have a Stude but it is not the one next to my name (avatar) on the board. His looks like a Merc in the picture.
