No. He was looking almost 90 degrees to his right at the camera.

  5. As far as the sounds go. It's hard to get any better than the Grand Prix movie. Followed by the 12cyl. engines in LeMans. I watch both of them quite often, with the volume up ....of course!!!!
I do seem to remember the video of Savage cruising around Ventura in his Coupe, with the passenger filming. THAT was hard to beat also.

That is the coolest ever. The sounds alone will move you.

That was enjoyable. Especially the first scene of the older car blasting down the country road.

the Savage coupe video has left the permanent audio imprint of 97's sucking air as fast as they can. also a killer video.

That short has been surrounded by so much mystery (mainly as the director has refused to speak about it.) Supposedly when it was first shown Claude was arrested.

There are various reports as to what was driven, and whether or not it was filmed at legal limits and merely "speeded" up in final production.

Me, I want to believe that it was shot in real time in a Ferrari and he got laid. That's what dreams are made of.

Lelouche himself has admitted that he was the driver and the car was his personal Mercedes. I believe it was a 450SEL 6.9 which was the fastest thing M-B had at the time. The sound was dubbed in later and if you watch closely you can see it doesn't match the action in the film. Someone mapped the route in the film and timed it to compute the speeds and found he didn't go all that fast, max. 90mph at one point I think, which ain't slow either. The camera being mounted so low to the ground exaggerates the sensation of speed.

All that being said, it's still a really cool piece of film. I think every cab driver in Paris watches it every day before their shift for inspiration. About the scariest ride I have ever had was an early morning trip from the airport to a hotel in the Montparnasse district of Paris, in the rain.

excellent, good update! A 6.9 benz, 410 cubic inches of SOHC V8 is nothing to laugh about. Definately going to be a serious collectors piece soon. To bad about smog laws here in Cali.

I think the recent sound dubbing is really annoying, as the engine is really way to wrapped up for the apparent speed. It would be better with less (toned down) engine and more ambient sounds.
