if the chevy t-5s are like the mustangs check the input shaft for play and the collar for wear and roll it around to feel the counter shaft.maybe even pull the drain plug for metal. just a suggestion

I am using a 5 speed out of a 85 s10.. people say that they are good up to 300 ponies...but you have to space the 4 bolts on the bell housing a 1/4 inch due to its long input shaft.

I beleive Chev 250 and 350 use the same bellhousing bolt pattern.
So the complete flywheel/ bellhousing/ trany package from behind a 350 V8 should work.

A world cl*** T5 out of a Caramo with a s10 tail shaft housing is the best set-up as far as I can tell. S10 T5 has two low of a 1st gear.Unless you like doing big smokie burnouts.....

Only the very late model Mustang T5 was rated above 300lb/ft. Your NWC S10 is likely <200lb/ft.

Be careful "spacing" the trans away from the bellhousing. If you try to do it with something like washers, you're asking for trouble.

    The S10 has two ge****ts - one has a 4.03 1st gear & the other has a 3.76 1st gear.

The inliners link is great for the original poster's request. Additional info here:

remember, the ford t5 ( mustang ) input shaft comes out at a different angle than the chev s10 version. 1980's v8 mustang t5s are good for about 265 pounds of torque, maybe a lil more unless you're planning on powershifting or running slicks, i don't know much about the chevy version

You'll probably want the forward location that the S10 versions provide. For your application there is no reason to worry about torque specs, so a NWC version will be fine. You would want to look for a '83-87 S10 T5. Be aware that some of those (probably 86-87) may be using an electric speedo and that you can't just switch from one to the other because the tailhousing castings are different. Also, most of those early S10's had a 4.03 first gear, which will be rather short for a 3:73 rearend. Not a big deal, just start out in second gear if needed, or go with the 3.42 S10 rearend.
It would be better to find one with a 3.76 first gear, and I know they exist with mech. speedo as my friend has one in his '52 (I rebuilt it).
There are tag number lists that will help identify which version you are looking at. Print it off and take it to the swapmeet with you. Otherwise, put the ****** in first gear and count the number of input revs per one tailshaft rev.

Did my research, thanks guys. My question is about the input shafts. What is the difference between the chevy v8 input shafts and the sbc input shaft

If i get the sbc tail shaft will i be able to switch from a v6 to a v8 chevy and still use the same shaft or will i have to switch to a chevy v8 input shaft.

I am looking to get get the s10 ge****t with 3.76 at first gear

I have no idea what you're talking about. All T5 input shafts come out at the same angle - 90* to the case. If you mean it comes out in a different location, that's not quite accurate either. The cases are drilled differently.

Unless you meant something else entirely...

Don't space the trans out from the bell, you loose the register with the bearing retainer. Just cut 1/4 inch off the pilot shaft. IF you have too.
