rear end question

the c.e rear end kit for a '47 ford says to use a 67-69 camaro or '68-'74 nova rear. on the camaro it says multi leaf rear only, is there a difference in the perch size?. i found one but he's not sure what springs it had, so does anyone know how to tell from looking at just the rear end?.

On a Nova, multy leaf, the spring pad on the axle is more like a saddle, the spring goes up into the saddle with a rubber pad above and below and then the spring lower plate is flat and crushes all that together.

Or you could cut the factory stuff off the tubes and weld on generic spring pads from Speedway and use regular u-bolts etc. [This is what i did to put a Nova rear in my 54 Chevy]

so maybe that's the difference is the multi is more like a cup and the mono is just a flat pad.

 

Niether are flat pads. The mono leaf perch is just not as deep as the multi leaf one. Here are some pics from ebay.

ok that makes sense, the perch has to be deeper to handle the multi leaf stack.

 

Moroso 85090 are the popular 3 inch spring perches. Available just about anywhere they sell performance pieces.

From looking at the snap of the kit that DA Tinman shows below it comes with perches.

 

Here is a pic of a Ch***is Engineering kit for a 38 truck. If this is the same springs that you have, either will work because of the clamps on the springs
