just wondering .....i would like to contact him ....i could really use a set of those buick hub adaptors he made , unless anyone else out there in hamb-land has an extra set they want to sell??? thanks
I'm also interested in these spacers to use the Buick hubs, so if anyone is thinking about having a bunch built, I'd like to get on the list. Thanks.
Or... should anyone have a demensioned drawing to make the spacers that they would be willing to share so that I can make some up locally? Thanks.
I don't know how long it's been since you PMed him, but I don't think he visits here very often, but he will PM you back... it took a few days last time I was interested in those adapters.
He has been a little more scarce on here since he moved from Michigan, to Arizona. I know he has his hands full since the move, but he still visits the site from time t time according to his profile.
Just wanted to thank seymour and jdubbya for the info. Being new I wouldn't have pm'd him without your info / suggestion. I did, and he did get back to me and my adaptors are heading my way. Thanks!
Hey JMOUNTAINJR,,, I am also trying to get ahold of 29RAT. Do you have a phone # or Email addy? thanks joe r
Joe, as above, I used the private message on this site and sent 20rat a note asking about the spacers. He wrote back, still had some spacers left from a production run, and I got some. That's the only method of contact that I had - no phone or email. That was January 2007. He was busy after having moved and new job, etc., but was still checking his pms here from time to time. Give it a shot. He seemed like a nice guy.
I bought a set of spacers about 4 years ago from "mectum" here on the board, fit and worked PERFECTLY. I have the blueprint and articles but have probably sent 50 or so sets out for free over the years and I'm kind of tired of it.
Hey wideglide74, I'm still holding my fingers crossed on my pm to you last week. I know how tiresome it must be with all these noobees ( me included ) all wanting the same info. I think I must have read most if not all of the posts on the Buick brake conversion including all the tech articles dealing with it plus used the search feature in all of the different forums to try to understand as much as I can on how to get this done as efficiently as possible. I believe that as long as there is one 32 Ford left out there, and one hot rod lover in the vicinity,,,there will always be a need and demand for the knowledge that fellers such as yourself, 29RAT, mecutum, marq and many, many others that have contributed to this very desirable conversion. Those finned Buick drums on a early hot rod, to me, are a big part of what the old timers must have loved to add to their cars for looks and stop-a-bility,,,and a lot of us noobees just want to be a part of that old love affair. Thanks,,,and hang in there. joe r
Hey JMOUNTAINJR, Did you wind up using the Buick backing plates AND Buick hubs on your ford spindles? I must be kinda slow here, but do I understand that you gotta have a "spacer" to position the Buick backing plate on the Ford spindle,,,, then also the "adapters" to be able to use the Buick HUBS on the Ford spindles. 10-for? How did yours come out? thanks joe r
Joe - I did not have the Buick backing plates or I might have tried that adaptation as well. The backing plate conversion is a completely different deal than the bearing spacers. I have not done it, but you could certainly do both conversions. I only used the bearing spacers on my Frod spindles to mount the Buick hub & drum ***embly. I like how they worked out.
Hey Jim,,, I knew it!!!!!!!! somehow i kept getting off on some tangents after reading all those different posts, I totally understand and agree with what you have just stated. Now, I want to use the whole Buick packege , simply because that is what I have available at this time. What I plan to do is find out what is the thickness of the " spacer" that is used to position the Buick backing plates on the Ford spindle. I will then cut out the offset center section on the Buick plate at a point determined by the thickness of the spacer, and weld in a new flat piece of 1/8" plate that will "position" the Buick plate on the Ford spindle same as the "spacer" does. Then have my friendly machinist cut out the centering hole to mount the Buick plate on the Ford spindle,, drill new bolt holes and bolt them dudes on to my Ford spindles!! YEAH!! Then I will try to contack 29RAT to see about his adapters to install the Buick hubs on the Ford spindles. I am getting pics from start to finish on this project and will see if anybody is interested and maybe post a tech that that will simplify this for the enthusiests to come.,,,cause they're coming! thanks man. joe r
