    Recently purchased a 50 shoebox on HAMB from an out of state seller. It had a clean ***le, but here in Indiana you either have to take the car to the local License Bureau office where they walk out and verify the VIN # or, if you can't drive it into their parking lot, you have to have a police officer stop by your house/shop and fill out a form verifying the VIN. There was a lot of work done to the car prior to my purchase and it was all apart. I have looked over and under and haven't found a vin plate or a stamp on the frame or body. The 35 Ford coup I am just finishing has it stamped on the frame on the driver's side engine area and a plate on the body.

    Before I start stamping #'s myself, am I missing its location?????? Any clues will be appreciated.

    Look on the firewall, right side. Should be stamped in firewall.

    1950 and 1951 Ford: Located on the front face of the cowl panel. The VIN (minus production codes) is also stamped to the right frame side rail just to the rear of the suspension upper arm

    Position #1 is the Engine Identification
    A = 215 cubic inch, 1V, 6-cylinder

    B = 239 cubic inch, 2V, V-8

    H = 226 cubic inch, 1V, 6-cylinder

    P = 255 cubic inch, 2V, V-8

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Position #2 is the Year Identification

    0 = 1950, 1 = 1951, 2 = 1952

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Positions #3 and 4 are the ***embly Plant Identification
    AT = Atlanta, Georgia

    BF = Buffalo, New York

    CS = Chester, Pennsylvania

    CH = Chicago, Illinois

    DL = Dallas, Texas

    DA = Dearborn, Michigan

    LU = Louisville, Kentucky

    EG = Edgewater, New Jersey

    KC = Kansas City, Missouri

    LB = Long Beach, California

    MP = Memphis, Tennessee

    NR = Norfolk, Virginia

    RH = Richmond, Virginia

    SR = Somerville, M***achusetts

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Positions 5 through 10 are the Consecutive Unit Number

    Consecutive Unit Numbers begin at 100001 for 1950-1952 Fords at each Ford Motor Company ***embly plant. This number represents the scheduled sequence order. When a car was ordered, it was immediately ***igned a VIN with a Consecutive Unit Number. It was then ***igned a scheduled production date based on availability of trim, parts, other components, and taking into account downtime and production workloads at the ***embly plant.

    It is actually located in 3 different areas of the car. Right side fire wall, center cross member top, and also at rearspring hanger right side top at frame rail.

    Thanks to all who responded. With the info on approximate location, I was able to clean off the areas and find a VIN, have the police inspect and get the ***le transfer late this afternoon.
