At some point an attempt had been made to tint the rear window on my truck. Not that it ever might have looked good, but now it is peeling just enough to look like ****, but not enough to want to come out easily. Any know of a solvent to take it off?

I used a heat gun, a razorblade and GooBGone. I also tried lighter fluid and wd40. It just kinda ****s to do.... Keep it nice and wet and go to town with the blade.

I also heard spray it down with soapy water and stick a black plastic trash bag against it and let it sit in the sun and bake. Supposed to make it peel off easier.

Laquer thinner will take off the residue after you razor blade the film off. Lots of patience works best!

First you have to remove the film, with a sharp "NEW" single edge blade. A dull or used blade will scratch the gl***, you may go through a few blades so dont be shy with em or you will scratch the gl***! Then to get the glue off dont use any solvents or thinners it will just gum it up and make a mess. Once again use a sharp, new blade and plenty of windex or soapy water and start s****pin. Not hard just time consuming.

Yeah, what he said. I'm in the used car industry and have had to do this more times than I can count!!! Makes a wet mess, but it's easy to clean up. Have fun!!!!

in most cases if you pull up a corner and pull at a 90 in short but quick moitions the film will peel. If it tears just lift a nother corner with a blade and jerk away (quickly though). I've had 10+ year old film come off in one piece, but there is a finesse to it. The plastic bag is mainly used for windows with a rear defroster that cannot be s****ped with a blade, for this they use 409 cleaner to break down the adhesive. As far as residue, I use windex and a new blade and when you think your done get a new blade and do it two more times. Tuck a towel if the mess is a factor. Dont step in the gooey mess and track it around either. Oh and I never flip my blade, just get a new one.....not a good time to be conservative.

I pull it off with my hands, then use brake kleen or carb cleaner and a rag to take the adhesive residue off. Works great for me.

I used rubbbing alcohol to get the glue off once. It worked but it was a miserable experience. I haven't tried it, but I bet the wall paper glue remover sold at hardware stores (the blue stuff in a spray bottle) would work well.

On my daily driver, I peeled off the tint (what a party that was) then used "Prep-Sol" and elbow greese to take the residue off. 8 glorious hours in a 1998 Mustang GT and several an*****ments to the effect of "What ***hole did this!?!" and "I'll never put this ****ing **** in anything I own!" I also uttered every swear word known to man and every possible combination. I may have made up some new one's too.

Went to a tint shop and had them remove it. $35 but it was awhile ago.

Yeah do this and use slightly diluted ammonia in between the plastic and the gl***. Stinks like crazy but it works. I dont know about the trash bags but the plastic backing thats on tint works good
I worked for a while for the tint guy next to Tint Connection on Newport blvd, he would laugh and look at me when someone wanted their rear tint removed.

Thankfully, it is only on the rear window which is straight and very small. I can't imagine having to remove tint off of an entire car; and arched gl***.
