my 50 Chevy Truck ****** is slipping, but when shifts, it shifts hard.
Now hearing a whine coming from the ******.
When the truck is cold, it acts like it's got a 3000 stall in it.
It has always shifted funky, but is getting worse ...
Fluid is clean, and full. I have always had TH400, or TH350's in other stuff, this is my first 700R.

    Pump going out?
    Or????

    Thanks,

TV cable adjustment is critical. A google search should pull up articles on the subject.

have you checked the filter? when they start slipping its not a good thing . the 700r4s are touchy anyway. if you end up having to go through the trans try to get one of those new constant pressure valve bodies from tci, I put in one of those in mine this summer ,it eliminates the h***sle of adjusting the tv cable. it works great.

vicksrod, I haven't checked the filter, I know that some sediment and small amount of metal is "normal" I am sure the filter is in need of a change, shoulda done that before posting this, I will look into the valve body you mentioned.

    thanks,

I think I had one that may have been adjusted wrong. It worked good till after long drives and then it would not shift. Now it only has first.

Thanks for the resources. It will help me out later.

If it end up being the TV cable causing the issue, try one of these TV systems. It is about the easiest I have seen or used, and is real easy to install.

Has it run for many thousands of happy miles before this, or is it a fresh swap?

Proven swap, my vote is the pump's going bad.

    lil background on the truck,...
it was my Dad's truck (R.I.P.)
He bought it customized a few years ago, and drove it a little.
It sat for 6 months or so after his death, and all the b.s. that goes with that.
I got it and ditched the 17" billet wheels, the velour interioir (looked like a pimps casket)...and put steel wheels and white whites on it, and had it bagged.

I drive it on weekends, and drive it hard, it's always acted like it had a big stall converter in it, but now it's getting worse, 3000 rpm shifts, and no downshift on acceleration, and I noticed a whine out of it now, but I don't hear so well anyway, so it could have been doing that for a while.

It definately needs to be service, I just do not know anything about the 700R's

Even if it is bad, you can get em at the junkyard for $300-400.
Get someone at a transmission shop to check the fluid pressure once its installed. I think thats how they check to see if the adjustment is right.
I adjusted mine myself, I just drove down the road, if it shifted to soon I moved the cable, if it shifted to late I went the other direction.
Get a toggle switch and run a hot wire from a constant source on the fuse panel and connect the other end to OD solenoid wire on the plug on the 700. That'll save you a few dollars on that conversion.

Doc, When Sam installed my 700 I had the same problem the first day. I took it back to him and he adjusted the D cable and has been fine since. He is pretty damn good at these things. Go see him.

I thought the interior looked fine when your dad had it, But i'm a PIMP.

I agree -- sounds like the TV cable set up to me -- I bought a "system" from these folks for my 700R4 and it solved my problems: http://www.tvmadeez.com/about.php

Dig thru their web site as there is a lot of application and installation information
    Hope this helps

the t.v. needed adjustment, the ****** lockup wasn't wired to lockup, so it is now wired.
****** serviced and shifting like it should.

one more thing off the list before the round-up.

now that the ****** is fixed, the brakes started squeeling on the way home from the ****** shop. :)

the back brakes probably need to be replaced, I heard the squealing from the front's I think.

i found sticks of neon under the seat and in the toolbox that I sold at the garage sale. ****,... those along with the crushed velour interioir that used to be in there, that truck shoulda been on Unique Whips,...ya heard?
