I think McColloch would put whatever name you want on the plaque if you bought enough of them!

Specifically, it was the Kaiser Manhattan. Kaiser's last ditch effort to stave off the effect that the horsepower race had on their sales.

  8. You would have thought they would have put the Supercharger on the Darrin instead of the Manhatten, althoughthe Darrin already had problems running hot and the supercharger would have only made it worse I imagine.

its a mccoulah off of a early fiftys kiaser frasier but the tbirds had a model
made by mccollah that would operate on wide open throttle switch that would
open and close the pully to speed up the blower
thats a cool set up man

  13. Basically, you are moving the sides of the pulley in & out to change the drive ratio (changing the pulley diameter as the belt rides farther up the slanted sides, or down)....Paxton did this a couple of other times, with a Ford blower, & a self-sold aftermarket unit, in the '50s. Interesting idea but not very successful so far as durability/reliability.

If you happen to see an older John Deere lawn tractor with a "variator"...it's the same idea. Just move the lever & the tractor speeds up or slows down, without stopping and changing gears....all done with the primary belt drive from engine to transaxle.

Didn't work too well on the JD, either.

That's pretty trick! First pic does have a pretty deep pulley on it, although it might just be locked out somewhere in the middle.
