Old Photos, scanner, Photobucket, Historical Derby Downs, Akron Ohio 1958!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Don Moyer, Jan 17, 2008.

  1. If you all want, I will post more tomorrow....

  2. As I am loading them, they are bigger than looking at them in real life, and I noticed some of the ohio plates are 1953, so you could be right, and the pictures were developed in 58!

These are awesome, some really interesting treatments of tail lights and exhausts on some of those cars, some subtle and some not-so-subtle(like the exhaust poking out past the continental kit on the Crestliner. The Zephyr has a really interesting windshield too, one piece and flat, just one intersting modification among many on that car.

And yes please, more more more!

Holy shit!! My Dad is going to love these pics! I believe it was called Akron dragway and later Derby Downs after the dragstrip was torn down and the Soap Box derby was built , then it was named Derby Downs.

I can't see anything newer than about 53-54. I personally can't believe that they held a drag race in 1958 without a single tri-5 Chevy in attendance.:D I bet it was 54 or earlier. Thanks for the pictures!!

Wow!! It's awesome to see what was going on in my neck of the woods 50 years ago. Derby downs is only about 10 minutes from me.

I just found a box of pictures from my grandfather from the early 50's as well showing his cars and his buddies. I'll try to post them when I get my scanner fixed.

    Thanks for sharing.

  23. i'm thinking the same thing. some of the plates are "1803 to 1953" i bet it's 53 or so. which is even better! the styles are way behind for 58. but that could be the 10 year west coast lag this part of the country had before the internet. also none of the kustoms have "lakes pipes" which really makes me think this is before 56 or 57.

    anyway, how perfect is this!!!
