i turst everyone opinion on here more than anywhere else so i need help from vegas hambers. i have a chance to move to vegas from ft worth. what is it like to live there, cost wise, i mean ive been there for fun a lot but what is it really like to live and work there? what are the availability of solid cars out there, cause id have to sell my lemans here, just cost too much to transport my lemans, thanks for any and all opinions.
My 20 something nephew moved from Tulsa to Las Vegas and it didn't work out and is now back living with his Mom and Dad. If you have a good job lined up maybe OK but make sure you check out the cost of living.
We are considering a move there also. I've talked with a few car guys from around there and have been told that the hot rod scene isn't as strong as one might think it would be. We've spent alot of time looking at real estate while there and I got to tell you, garage space is at a premium. Most attached 2 and 3 stalls are pretty damn small compared to what I'm used to. Still lots of jobs, but don't expect to make bank unless you know how to do something. Alot of info on this message board: http://www.city-data.com/forum/
If you have a job lined up or are transferring, chk out cost of living. Rentals recquiring deposits, utilities, etc can eat you alive. I lived there for 25+ years but made great money, owned my home, etc. Not as cheap now as it was, especially food / entertainment wise. Lots of cars on the market, (California prices) lots of street rod / custom / activities and some very good organizations. One negative point, Nevada was to lazy / ignorant to do any work on the DMV side of the house pertaining to vehicle registration, basically COPIED CALIFORNIAS STUPID RULES. If you arent very careful, you can get into a mess trying to register a car. I had no problems with any of my toys, even one brought in from out of state, but i knew the system, and was patient.
So many aspects to consider, if you want to live in Las Vegas. There is a SoCal rod shop, out on West Desert Rd. Go out by the Palms hotel and further, keep an eye out on the right side. The culture of the tourism central is not easily defined, nor does it seem to foster any sense of community. The culture seems entranced by Lucre, ($) and certainly beyond this, you can meet folks there including HAMB-ers who have found a good place and people to enjoy life with.
