Here's a little somethin' for all you tool whores.... you know who you are... just got to have all the latest gadgets... you'd sell your soul and your ass to the snap on man... if he'd just give you free access to his truck... you spend money you don't have on stuff you'll never use ( or don't even know how) just to have it to impress your friends... heck you proably get a semi when you open your drawrs and see all them shiney nice chrome wrechches all lined up for papa...I'm not this kind of guy... but I know a few and you more than likely do too...anyhow My new favorite toop is really a must have for any mechanic....it's a 1/2" drive cordless variable speed electric impact.... I used a buddies cordless impact and thought it was so coooool I decided I just had to have one of my very own...ony problem is they normally cost 300-500 bucks... whell the other day Kragen's had one on sale for 99 bucks (normal price is like $250.00)...once you try this little jewell you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.... it's 14.4 Volt.... and the battery seems to last forever....It takes off wheels, shackles, U bolts... I'm not sure what the torque rating is but for it's size it has some balls... I'm serious it's the best thing since the ratchet wrench....

Man, I am envious. I have been wondering about getting a non-air impact that could be a 'go anywhere' kinda deal. $99? What is Kragen's and do they have them in Texas?

I might hafta get one of these.

Whoa, that's pretty cool. I didn't expect one of those to have enough guts to spin lugs off. I coulda used one this weekend!

For those interested, looks like you can order them from kragen.com if there's not a Kragen near you. Search for "Nikota 08137". (I'd give a link, but you hafta give 'em your zipcode.)

the snap on one kills any one out there that i have used . i know it is pricy but when you goto use it and it does not work you get more pissed off. my father tought me as a kid you are always better to spend more money on the better tools then buy the cheap ones and have them fail. It does reach a point where you can buy some cheaper stuff that you dont use to offen .

I hear ya man... nothin' I hate more than stuff that don't work like it's sposed too... but the Snap On one is like $600.00 bucks... and for that price I'd just keep using my air stuff... unless I was a mechanic by trade... then I'd pony up... but at 99 bucks I thought what the heck... and to be honest this ones not bad quality....sure it made in taiwan... and I'd like to buy american... but I bet the snap on one is made overseas too... so what's better.... to hold out for the real deal or cave and go low budget knowing the romance could be short lived.... all I know is mine is working great and I fucking love this thing....

One more thing.... I checked out the snop on cordless and it doesn't look like it's variable speed.... I guess the V/S isn't necessary for the big stuff... but I really like it for the small stuff...

My neighbor is on a couple of Rally car teams and he has the Harbor Freight equivalent, 14.4 volts, too. He loves it, it is SO handy even when you are in the garage and don't feel like firing up the compressor and waiting. I've used his before and it works very well.

Does anyone know what kind of lb/ft of torque these puppies can generate? And where can I get one for less than the $169 that the Milwaukee ones are for sale for on Amazon.com?

Although I guess that that's the point of air tools: the compressor is expensive but powerful, and the tools are powerful but cheap.

And where's the 14.4 die grinder? 14.4 cutoff wheel?

I have used the electric impacts before ( Dewalt) to switch the pulleys on alts & they work well. Do a search on EGay for electric impact or cordless impact. Some good deals there.

I never have even heard of such a thing, but I can see that being VERY handy if it actually had power like you say it does. Cool

improvements in cordless technology have been quite amazing

occasionaly I use a cordless rotohammer at work drilling holes in concrete for surveyors tack in lead monuments,, there is no better way.

my older brother just gave me a new cordless sawsall that I am anxious to try out.

seems like just a few short years ago the little Makita cordless drill motors were the hot ticket,
what were they? 9 volts? and you got maybe one or two holes out of 'em?

Yeah cordless technology has been just getting better. The cordless sawsall is killer if you need to take something off out in the woods, or out back of the shop. The impacts work as advertised. I don't know about the Harbor Freight one, I've had mixed results with their stuff lately, but the Snap-On and Milwaukee ones rock..

Ok HAMBers, here's the bee knees of a deal:

Harbor Freight has one on sale right now that is a 24 volt, 1/2 inch drive, cordless impact for only $79. I am going to get one this weekend.

Hey Kronik, thanks for startin' me thinkin' of this so that I found the deal.
