Okay here's the situation which I need some advice for. Right now I've got my '64 F100 up on stands, because I'm partially rebuilding and tightening up the old girl's front end (axle, spindles, shackles, tie rods, etc...) Everything has been going alright. Of course, as with anything, I've run into a few problems along the way which I've gotten past without too much of an issue. But just recently I've become stumped on how to press the new bushings into the shackle component that's riveted to the frame. This piece: (I realize this pics have the old bushing collar still in there. Since these pics were taken they've been removed.) Obviously I can't use a bench vice in there under the truck (I used the vice to press the bushings into the leaf springs smoothly) as I can't get it in there and its pretty hefty. I've tried hammering it, I've also tried a big C-clamp. Maybe I just don't have the right tool? Would a bit of heat do the trick? Please tell me what I need to get or do. I'm trying to have the truck rolling again by the end of this weekend. Any and all help is much appreciated!
I use a bushing driver to remove and install, then ream to size. The bolt and washer setup works good for install but still may have to ream to size.
