running a sbc with a lumby cam...installed stock chevy mechanical fuel pump and have a quality fuel pump pressure gauge inline....the reading is 10 lbs. all the time. decided to install a pressure regulator...restarted motor and got the reading to 6 lbs. but then the pressure dropped off to 4 then 3 lbs...any ideas or suggestions. tia

Install an air bleeder after the regulator or just crack the fittings on the carb with a towel to catch any fuel and make sure you don't have anything like a bad plug wire or anything arcing ! See what it reads after you bleed the air out of the line .

Is it a fluid filled Fuel pressure guage under the hood? These guages change reading with temp. You might recheck with a manual gauge.

Not to steal the thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for a good quality 2" (approximately) gauge? I have the same problem with my setup. The pressure shows high initially, and then drops off after a little driving around. Is it just the fluid filled gauges? Or are all the small gauges inaccurate?
