I'm going tomorrow to check out a Model A ch***is. The guy says it's fully boxed, has a mustang II front end, all suspension is there, Ford 8", 4 link rear end with coilovers, and set up for a 350/350 (has an old motor/trans already installed). He also mentioned that it was under a '33 Ford. Is there anything specific I should be watching for that may be screwed up due to adapting it to fit a '33? I would be picking this up in order to build a '31, and don't want to bother if it's butchered. Anyway, any tips on what I should be looking for? big mac
Are you planning on using the mustang II setup? That would be my most concern if it was installed properly.
Depending on your build plans...you may be time and money ahead to buy a new frame. Riley Auto carrys a nice setup, VAPHEAD on here, tell him Mike from Vendetta Auto Fab sent you
I would look to make sure the mustang front end was put on correctly i.e. measure front a specific point on either side and make sure it matches, also I would look to see if the weld is goobered on or if it looks professional and the same goes for the rear suspension. I would be kind of weary of buying a complete ch***is from somebody just because usually they are trying to dump some garbage in place of a new ch***is. Also the model A frame is pretty straight but a 33-34 frame has a lot of kick in the rear and some in the front also so I would be curious if it was modified to simulate that same setup.
I just ***umed that it was square and useable since he was running it under another car, but I guess ***umptions are bad all the way around. I will see if I can get to it enough to check those things. I'm not really that excited about the mustang II set up, but I'm not exactly bummed about it either. If it's installed right, I'll run it. I'm planning to build a little driver. He said it's kinda burried under all his stuff, so we'll see if I can get to it enough to check these things out.
I know I'm beating a dead horse, but the Mustang II raises some flags. Especially on an A frame. If there's anything going on on top of the frame by the front suspension, your fenders won't fit anymore.
Norrie just pointed out the biggest Foopa with M11 on model A frames. With stock M11 A-Frames on top of the model A Frame rails your screwed if your going to run Fenders. If your not going to run Fenders they look like **** hanging out in the open. The Wizzard
Before this became the kinder gentler HAMB someone would have said. What the foock have you lost your mind, the M11 ****s with a A.
Aside from the MII stuff, the wheelbase and frame contour are different between an A and a 33. Good luck, observe and measure closely.
All helpful info. Thanks. I wasn't planning on running fenders, but I can see how a mustang II would look like dookey hanging out the front of an A. Thanks everyone. I didn't make it up there to see it today, and may not bother now. If anyone is interested in it, I think it can be bought for about $1500. PM me and I'll send you some info. big mac
as a few others have said...the M2 front is a big concern. i have a 30 A with a M2 front, ford 8 in the back, with 4-bar and coilovers. when i got mine the M2 was about 8 inches too far back, and not squared. i had to take the whole thing off and redo it so it had the correct wheelbase. im also in the middle of fabricating fender braces so i can "eventually" run front fenders, the M2 makes this difficult, but its still possible...it just takes some minor modification. make sure the frame is'nt kicked up too much in the back, this would mean either redoing the rear cross, or modding the body. PM me if you need/ want dimensions/pics of mine Zob
$1500 for a hack job? I dont even need to see it to say that, the fact it was under a 33 raises a HUGE red flag. Buy a frame from Vaphead.
