....i had this vision of the 'WILD CHILD' in some art i imagined in my head,,....but the thing is,,,i am not sure if i have seen it already and forgot about it.... ..i was thinking in my head of the 'WILD CHILD' blasting away down the rough *** sidewalk (but with no sidewalk in the art) in a RADIO FLYER with wheels getting all crazy,,,and him all bent up in a cl***ic ratfink style pose,,, is there art of this??? i want this for a new tattoo.... (and DONT COPY ME!)
i just want to be sure this hasnt been done already,,as i want to get an artist to do this for me,,, thanks so much! you guys (and gals) are swell!
Hey Sam. As far as I know there was some controversy over Roth's Wild Child. He first did it with Wild Child raising hell with an axe. Then he went all mormon and changed it to an ice cream cone. No Radio Flyer though. At least not on the one I have. Odd you mention the radio flyer. I am starting a kids line of Roth styled t-shirts and what not called "Brat Fink". No one knows about it. All the drawings will be of hot rodded wagons, strollers, tricycles etc. Totally separate from my Church brand. It will be followed by a coloring book. Coby carsnotculture.com
thanks for the info Coby. ,man,,the 'Brat Fink' line up sounds REALLY cool! maybe me and the ol lady will have to have another kid now!
I bet this guy has the waterslide.........I have been watching him for a couple of years on epay. Chris http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQs***Z123soldit
I think Wild Child was driving a GTO. In the original artwork he was holding an axe and had br*** knuckles on chain, and a switchblade. There may be a Roth T-shirt of a hot rod Radio Flyer with a monster in it, cuz Roth did build some hot rod Radio Flyers.
Howdy kids, Roth did have some of us draw Rat Fink and a few of the Studio characters in his motorized wagon "Booger Buggy",the "Conestoga Star", the "Yankee Blitz" (actually a wheelbarrow design).... Junkyard Kid,RF,and others got the treatment...I still have his instructions to us to start putting the monsters in his Wagons, along with never-published fotos..... Roth tribute tattoos are always a very wonderful thing,in my opinion.....If I searched my sketchbooks and files, I'm sure I could find the artwork for the scene you described already fleshed-out.....but as a concept, it's already been done.... The trick would be to come up with a new twist on the idea....Your wagon is motorized, correct? Ace
thanks JohhnyAce! the idea i have in my head is not a motorized wagon, but just an old basic red radioflyer i was listening to a song the other day on the punk station(cant remeber the song now) but the way i heard the music made me think of a lil crazy kid hyped up on poprocks and pepsi blasting down the sidewalk all cartooned out ,the more i thought about it i thought it would be cool to make it a RF type monster kid in the wagon with the wheels all tweeked out(like the wagon is flat, but its the wheels that are getting crazy, like on a cartoon)and thats why i wasnt sure if i had seen it before or not. thanks,
The original version is in "Confessions of a Rat Fink" And it was reprinted in Juxtapoz Sept/Oct 2001. Copro Nason Gallery sells a print of it! http://www.copronason.com/prints36.html
Would anybody be interested in an Ed Roth 26 page catalog from the 60's ? If so, I'll put it up as a H.A.M.B. auction.
I triple -dog -dare ya to put that up....watch the monster freaks sell their own mutha in laws to win that.... Awesome Newt & Bud Moore cover..... Ace
Got that right! Bud moore is a name I've never come across before Know any more about him? Expolding Minds want to know!
I've seen that catalog fetch big dollars! I'll bid, but I bet my pockets arent deep enough to own it! Wild Child can be found riding a bike on the boxart for the WHAMO Roth Wheelie bars. Moriarity or Zettle brothers here have a set, I think
Always been fond of Newt's Wheelie Bar box art... That one sports not Wild Child, but the brother of the monster found on "Chevy, Breakfast of Champions" - also by Newt. The Wheelie Bar box art was pretty much Newt's redesign of "Mother's Slave"....he dropped the grocery bag and added a wheelie bar and box of super balls.... Fascinating topic - thanks for tolerating any additions or corrections I might offer... as Ed's file keepers, we made it our daily business to I.D. these guys throughout the years... Hope it brings some enjoyment! Ace & Kali
I'd like to have that one to go with the one I have here! On the outside chance that the catalog does come up for auction, an ad for my mother-in-law will be in the cl***ifieds tomorrow.
here ya go!,, is your mother in law a good cook??? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236562
Any info about who worked for Roth Studios and what art they produced is great appreciated, Johnny Ace. I wouldn't mind seeing the Wham-O Wheelie Bar box art. I saw the video on teh internets recently, might have been here on the HAMB.
