Not cool, man. If we want a set of wheels, we will go look in the cl***ifieds. You should not post a link to your cl***ified ad here. Very dumb move on your part.

As for the Gene Winfield bashing.... unbelievable. CARGUY24, you certainly are en***led to your own opinion. Being a new guy and bringing that ****ed up opinion here is really not a great idea, as you can tell.

Now, back to the Traditional 60s customs.....

Someone keeps saying "Traditional custom" . There are no 61 Cadillac's that were done in the early 60's . Past lighting it up on fire , wheels to use or how to customize it is anyone's guess . Larry Watson was the only one dare make an attempt .....He used a 1957 and a 1959....

anyway lets get back on track as to what this threaded was intended to be.

Wrazed Wrong, thank you for the compliment. I know whatever wheel combo you end up using will look cool too.

VonCi$co - have you thought about having the 61 caps that are on your car now polished out? I have two buds that have that done and they look sweet. I think the 61 cap with a really nice polish job is one of the nicest of 50s-60s caps. This was going to be plan B for me if I didnt like how the Sabres came out.

Others I would consider for your car:

56 cap - great looking cap, might be too deep for the 61 wheel though. Maybe someone can confirm?
57 cap - theres a good reason why so many use this cap
58 Sabre wheel as I have used
59-60 Eldo cap - if you dont mind spending 300-500 per cap they are bad ***
Sombreros - when done right on the right car these caps can really work well. I even think the repops that are out there are nice, I havent seen them in person so I cant say about the quality.

you have a nice car to start and it doesnt take much to make these things reallly nice. Good luck!

My 65 pimpala is not reallly traditional it is kinda a traditional themed lowrider it has original 60's astro supreme style wheels {that need replating} with 1 1/4 whitewalls and I think it is the only thing that looks right for this. The wide whites look funny on these astro style wheels in my opinion.

Never heard about the preachers car but Raymond Loewy had his Caddy customized, which involved removing the fins, a**** other body mods. I prefer the stock '59 over this one, but whadda I know......

    here's some pics his de-finned '59 Caddy :

The Hell it does. Raked means down in front, a look which became popular in California in the mid-50s, long before it was done in the Midwest or the East. It started with hot rods, of course, and then fat-fendered cars, and by '55 or so it was popular on shoeboxes and the like.

Although the down-in-back style was the rule on early customs, it was out of fashion in California by 1956. And I have NEVER heard it described as a "California rake"!

Yeah I always thought California Rake was nose down.. like this.

Would someone have used these whitewalls in '61? The fronts are 2" on 26" tall tires, the rears are 2.5" on 30.5" tall tires.. doesn't seem to have much of a rubber rake even with nearly 5" difference. Hmm.

A 5" tire height difference makes only a 2 1/2" car height difference.

Dude, get some pics and decide what paint job you are going to go with and pick the best one to match your car, not what everyone else says is right or correct or what ever, it's your car, do what you think looks cool. You are the one that has to drive it.
