My battery tagged my alternator on the way to work this morning and sprayed acid everywhere. Any advice? …beside strapping down my battery better! It's in the parking lot right now dripping.
Sure, just mix up some baking soda with water in a spritzer bottle and spray away. It will neutralize the sulfuric acid and then you just rinse it away. If it has already stained paint and chrome, that will not go away.
even a good flushing with plain water will do the trick, battery acid easily dillutes in water. time is of the essence, every surface the acid contacted is probably ruined by now.
I soaked it in GUNK engine degreaser and jet sprayed it off. I lost some of my engine paint and chrome parts. All in all, it was cleaned within an 1 1/2 hours after it happened. The alternator was just flinging that **** all over the place in there. It went everywhere. I'm thankful, from what I can tell, my body paint was not harmed. Thanks for the suggestions.
Might want to take the alt apart and clean it also. That stuff will play havoc in there! And use the soda/water to clean it, not Gunk.
Do what ****ster27 said ASAP. It will instantly stop battery acid problems. Flush after using with clear water
I was working on a car without a strapped down battery and it moved a little and hit the fan and did the same thing, what a fing mess. I waited too long to clean and had to repaint alot of stuff. As said baking soda and water will do it but you gotta be quick. Especially try to spray some up in the hood underbracing where acid could hide and rust it away.
