Absolutely!! Great motor and they aren't making them anymore, and its nice to have a 327 or a 283 instead of the 350.

Now if you said it was out of a Corvette, like the other 99% out there, it would be worth ten times as much. ;)

  8. no plans to sell it...ran the numbers and its a 1965,as was the ******.

Not to hi-jack (sorry). Are the 327 GM forged cranks decent parts to keep?

I have a 327 large journal stuffed under the bench and picked up a forged crank in my travels.

Also, how far can a 327 be punched out?

Yes, good crank, especially large journal. It will fit in a 350. I wouldn't do more than a clean up for cubic inches. Probably .060 over.

If my memory serves me right, a 30 thousandths bore on a 327 takes it out to 345 cubes. I don't think I'd want go 60 thousandths on it, because it'd run hotter than hell! I'd take ANY 283 or 327 available ANY DAY! They're both great engines to hot rod! Any 283 or 327 that you can turn the crank on is worth $300.00 all day long. My 2 cents only.

    .030 over 327 is a 331. A .060 is a 337.

a small journal 327 can make 350 horses very cheaply... in a 1600 pound car that will make you stain your shorts!
    Worth keeping??? ...Abso-frickin-lutely!:D

    I thought .030 obver was a 331??? but what do I know.

parts... back in the 70's and 80's people took all the stock parts and threw them away. now people are restoring cars back to original and want the right brackets and stuff. is it a 4bbl intake? not worth a fortune but someone out there would want it. figure what years the brackets fit.. i'm sure chevrolet made the same stuff work over a few different years

if ihad all the brackets from a 68 327 i would definitly list them on ebay.

I have parted out a 57 Y-block, a 56 chevy 265 and a 1951 216. I got more than they were worth as a whole since the 216 had a cracked block and the 265 was frozen stuck. just got to know how to list and take good pictures.

Thanks. I think mine is already @ .030" +. I'll check. I know it's got fuelie heads w/ 2.02's, double springs, screw in studs, 10.5 TRW's in it now. Guy told me that it spun a bearing, but when I tore it down, the problem was one of the intake valve springs broke. Bottom end is still tight as hell.

When exactly did they switch from small to large journals? 67-68 or 68-69?? I know there was a big transition in there somewhere. They changed the way they breathe and whatnot.

One of the bonuses of the early 327/283 is the road draft tube setup in the back of the block. This allows you to run closed valve covers and still be able to vent the engine. Now you don't need to run valve covers with breathers!

Those 283-327 small journal (2") rods are hard to find. I heard some of the tuner crowd used them on their rice-junk race motors until trick expensive aftermarket stuff became available.

Wow, I literally pulled a small journal 327 shorrt block out of someone's trash in South Jersey.

Hauled it home & gave it to my buddy for some old Ford parts. I thought I struck gold with the Ford parts and he was happy to get it.

I believe 1968 is when the 327 went large journal. So 62-67 are smaller. small journal cranks came in the 265, 283 and early 327's. Most of them are forged. I'd tell you more but my buddy borrowed my history of the sbc book.

All the 327 small journal cranks are forged, most if not all are not drilled for damper bolt.

I have a 1966 small journal 327 in my Buick and I’m one of the 99% claiming they have a Corvette engine. ;)
A pair of 461 fuelie heads, a Weiand stealth, a 929 camshaft and a 600 Holley makes it a nice little engine.
