I built my own cones for my headers. I took three inch diameter pipe and cut them from basically nothing to two and a half inches at the other end then I squeezed it in a vice and shaped it with a hammer as well. I obviously tack welded then finish welded and ground the weld smooth. Didnt take that long.

Go Stingrays!!!-in Austin, that's all the help I can offer...

  3. Actually the high school mascot is the Stingarees, I'm surprised anyone would know about that? Richard grew up in Freindswood so probably didn't even know.

Casey, don't worry, I'll be there standing in for you in that capacity.

  4. Actually, I did know. Jeepers Creepers is from League City, if I remember correctly. But then, I drink a lot of beer, so what do I know?

  5. I pasted this from the build thread, I had to work late and didn't get to mock it up. Matbe tomorrow.

Got my axles over the weekend. They did a nice job. I used Sid(55 Mercury) baecuse he did the spindles as well as the axle, and modified the $35 kingpins, I forgot what year, and made new thrust bearings, for $20, so I didn't need to buy the $120 kingpins, even had them brought back to Houston for free.

After dropping the steering arms to match, re welded and re-tapered the holes so I can mt. the tierod underneath. I would use him again with no problem.

  6. Those things look like they got rained on!

It don't look good for me this week-end, helping Kisam on that house. She,s got a Feb 1st deadline. After that; I'm in. Got all the bearings now for the 350. Get that bead roller built before the week-end, you're gonna need it!

Hey Richard, I got a few sets of SBC headers they are for trucks and **** but if you need a set I'll give them to ya. Oh and by the way Dayton beat them stigaroids or whatever in the playoffs.

To mount the 40 Ford brakes to the 32-36 spindles no spindle modification is required at all. You have to install a bearing spacer on each spindle and a centering ring for the backing plate, available from any early Ford parts house as a hydraulic brake adapter kit. The mounting holes in the backing plates must be elongated to fit the smaller bolt pattern of the early spindle.
    Bolt on and done.

  13. I know about that method, this way (Done by NealNC here on the H.A.M.B.) looked much stronger. I should probably do it the old way, been done by hundreds(thousands?)over the years, should be O.K. for me.

We sure could use a guy of your experience to come lend a hand, I'm sure everyone would like to meet you.

  14. I definitely want the headers and pistons, I have some low compression jobs right now.

  15. If you "really" want to make it to the round-up.
Get the engine, brakes etc rebuilt, while you do all the busy work like finish welding, etc. Don't wait till the last minute to do these things.
    Keep the parts flow going.
    You can do it, bro.
AND, easy on the beer, the welds just don't look as good:D, and spend more time on the car, than on the HAMB:eek::eek::eek:

  16. Good advice, Dreadman.

Change of plans, I bought this today out of the cl***ifieds. I'll save the more exotic cowl steering setup for the RPU. It will need to be reversed, but I hear that is a really simple procedure. '62 F100 box and column. Anyone done this particular one?

I will mount it as a unit, on top of the framerail, instead of on the side. Will be stronger, and probably make for a better steering wheel angle. If I find I don't like it, it's just cutting/grinding and welding. I'd prefer the key on the dash, but will leave it as-is for time being, since it works.

So... I spoke to richard on the phone earlier, and we made sure he can use the pistons and maybe the headers. One problem... Richard lives in Texas city, and I drive a 40 year old truck, thats a little worn out. Therefore, anyone who lives somewhat close to Baytown and is going to the thrash... PM and we'll get together and if I ain't busy if it would be okay to ride with you and bring some parts, via your not so worn out Driver. If I can't make it, I could still arrange for you to bring the parts. The parts are set of 8 pistons, A Rear spring, two wheels, and a set of headers. Thanks

I'm in Houston now, I'll come and bear a hand if I decide that a conjugal visit back to Borger is not required. Go ahead and PM me your address so I can mapquest you. Maybe jabber and I will both come, depends on schedules.

  25. CHANGE OF PLANS

Dave(Xtralow 60) has offered the use of his shop. He has more room, and more tools. This will be closer for everybody as well.
    Dave's shop address for Mapquest:
    112 Campbell Ave.
    Pasadena, TX 77502
    Ph# 281-216-2775

As a bonus, you will see some really cool in-progress hot rods and lowriders they are building.

    Thanks in advance.

Shaun's coming by to help me finish the floor in the roadster. Actual sheet metal instead of wood and a bona fide battery box which won't be located directly under the bolted in bench seat. I've been working on it and thought I'd finish it by this weekend.

Anyway. We're planning on at least swinging out for a little bit. I'll at least try and drink a few with you before we take off. I need to get this finished. It's holding me up.
