Last night, I went over to a buddy's shop to try to re-arch the main leaf in my leaf pack. To give a bit of history, I purchased a new Mr. Roadster spring pack for a song, but when it was measured, it was measured the length of the spring, not the distance between the eyes, and therefore, the new pack is too short to use. I'll flip the old main leaf, and run it with the new pack, and everything will work cool enough. Well, we used my buddy's lightweight muffler tubing bender to re-arch this spring, and now it just doesn't have the same 'temper' it did before. In fact, once I got it completely bent the last time, I measured it against the original outline of the spring on the ground, it it was considerably over arched. So, being the big ole' boy that I am (275#) I figured I'd put the arched side up and step on it to see if that knocked some of the bow out of it. Well, it did, and it seemed almost too easy. My question is this: Is this spring okay to run, or is it ruined and I need to replace it? If I need to replace it, does anyone have a spare 31.75" A front spring laying around - preferably pre-flipped - for a reasonable price? Or should I just go buy one locally at the spring shop? Thanks!
Hmmm, something doesn't seem right. It's fairly rare, but I have seen main leafs break. If I were you, I'd go over to Tulsa Auto Spring off 21st and Sheridan and at least let them evalutate it. They can pretty much make what ever you need. From experience though, go talk in person, they seem to blow off custom jobs on the phone.
