Cross Ram Side Draft on a 283? Good or Bad

I am thinking about running a cross ram with 4 OER (Weber's) side draft's on my 283. I'm gonna get it from the guys out in Gilroy and they seem like really good guys and are very helpful. Anybody got any idea about how some non Weber guy like me is going to be able to handle the tune and whatnot with this setup? Anybody running one of these on a chevy v8 that could give me some feedback?
I wanted to run old finned Corvette valve covers with no breathers but with this system you can't have the front filler/breather so what else could I do instead of valve cover breathers?

Do you have any hood clearance issues? I like the DCOE.

 

i don't have a hood at all but the cross ram side drafts are lot cheaper than the others from what i have found.....

 

Vizard has had good success with these on a Chevy and gives some jetting tips in his Carbs book.

 

If it is indeed a 283, it probably has the provision (with a baffle) at the rear of the valley for a road draft tube (or PCV valve fitting on the later ones). The belly****on guys on here will probably correct me, but I think all small blocks through 67 or so should have one (about the time they changed bearing sizes). If you have one, it's a simple matter to hook up a PCV valve and run a vacuum line to the intake. Easy enough too, to run 1 1/4" exhaust tubing (or whatever size fits a mushroom breather) to the oil pan for a fill tube (a small bracket to a rocker cover bolt would stabilize it) . If you really don't want holes in your Corvette covers (and I wouldn't either), it shouldn't be too difficult with just a little imagination and fabrication.

 

I have 2 45 DCOEs on a Quad4. You will need to think about how you are going to run the linkage for 4 carbs. Also you may have a problem getting the carbs to clear your valve covers. also you will need 36 or 38mm chokes I think to run that size cubic inch motor. I don't think a 40 DCOE will be big enough. The DCOE that are larger then 45 get expensive quick. call me if you need additional info. 607 796 0394
they make an adapter manifold that attaches to a manifold that uses two dcoes instead of 4

 

Downdraft tube, Other wise you will have blowby. Believe me with multi carbs the PCV will never work rite
