Recently, I purchased a disc brake setup off of eBay.
I know, I know, not too many are truly fond of discs,
but I am, so that's all that matters!

Anyway, I saw this Speedway kit, and it says for its
for a GM rotor and caliper, and all that good stuff. Guy
says it was mainly used for mockup, and had no real
mileage on it, but he had purchased a different, more
advanced kit to use instead. It was sort of mis-labled
and mis-categorized, so I went ahead and started
watching. I asked him what his reserve and shipping
were, and he told me, but I thought it was a bit much.
So, I waited. And about 12 hours left to go, he lowered
his reserve! I bid and wound up with the winning bid!

I got the kit in the mail today, and I figured I'd run
over to the parts store to see if the spacers/adapters
in the kit would be somewhat close to Ford 1/2 ton inner
bearings instead of the GM. See, I've got a 1/2 ton Ford 9"
under the back of my Dubble A, and wanted to match bolt
    patterns.

Well, I'm talking with the guy at the parts store, and am
telling him want I'm trying to do, and he grabs a GM
intermediate bearing and we try it for size - TOO small!
He tries another GM bearing, and its also TOO small! He
grabs one for a '82 1/2 ton Ford pickup, and.... IT FITS
    LIKE A FREAKIN' GLOVE!

I'm stoked, as now I'm pretty sure I've got the entire
basic brake kit I needed for my '29 Dubble A to convert
    it over to discs!

I've priced the basic Speedway kit, and it runs $99.99
plus shipping. Then I found this kit on eBay. Best of all....
the price on the eBay kit... including shipping... was $36
    delivered to my door!

Anyway, here's the picture of the kit I got.

Salvage run sounds like fun. Maybe on a Saturday morning when it isn't 8 degrees outside. The Wichita swapmeet is coming up. Maybe you can find some stuff there. I have always had good luck at that one.

Goztrider- I bought a tube axle with '40 ford spindles that had a disc brake kit just like that, and of course no instructions. Do your instructions list what type of rotors, calipers and bearings to buy? The companies selling them don't want to give out that info, as they want you to buy the full kit.

I remember looking at the kit, and it is supposed to fit '73 to '93 Ford half ton rotors. So... next time I run to the 'yard, I'ma look for me on of those Fords!

eberhama, I lucked out when I purchased the front spindles for this thing. I was seeing '37-'48 spindles going anywhere from $100 - $200+ per pair. I wound up purchasing an entire complete front axle out of a '46 Ford half ton truck... delivered... for get this.... $76.00!

Yeah, it's safe to say I find some deals on occasion.

Duck and Crab, I wouldn't mind making a run up with you guys should you decide to go. I'd hate to drive the beast - unless we were bringing back a project car - as it only gets 12-13 mpg!

And this Saturday is supposed to be nice. Any idea how late U-pull is open up on 36th N and Peoria?

Gotzrider, I bought the same kit (basic kit, just like yours). You will need to buy a different outer (small) bearing race, not the outer bearing, just the race or some call it a cup. also I hope that you recieved 6 spacers, 3 short and three long, you use one of each in all three locations. I assume you know that you use GM calipers. Hopefully Speedway will give you the part number for the race and info for the correct calipers. Also, as I recall there are 2 different diameters on those F-150 rotors. I believe 11inch and 11&3/8. I think you want the larger of the two. Those instructions you have are woefully lacking in detail. Also be forewarned that you may not be able to use early Ford 40-48 style wheels, you need about another half inch offset to clear calipers.

11" and 11 3/8" translates to 3/16" difference on the overall radius of the rotor, and if I 'want' the larger ones, the
kit should work with either rotor - or so I would think. And yes, I knew I had to use GM calipers, as they are
plentiful anyway, so that's no problem.

As for spacers, I'm not sure what spacers you're talking about. Do you mean the ones that space the caliper from
the bracket? Then yes, I've got them.

I know the directions are pretty lacking as far as details go, but I'm not going to worry too much. If stuff doesn't
fit, I'll just call speedway and see if I can get some technical help... OR... I'll tap into the knowledge base here on
    the HAMB!

And I don't plan to be running early style wheels, as they aren't going to fit the idea I've got in mind for this big
dog. I'll probably be running some radials (ducking) all the way around - just because they are what I want.

If someone has a way to CAD these spacers, I'd be willing to give one up temporarily to make it happen. I'd also be willing to give the brackets up to have them copied as well.
