http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/178113/tp/1/ Check this thread out!! What a find and there is even more besides the wagon. It appears they are still out there.
I've seen some neat threads in my time but that one takes the cake ! I read every single post on there and i think it is incredible ! Thanks for letting us know about this! That wagon is going to be worth serious dough !
he had posted on here a while back... finally see the pics...that is a rough car... gonna take some doing to bring it back.-looks like all that stuff was under water.
Fuck the 409 car....the factory lightweight Max Wedge Plymouth is the real find! Cool hotrods too.....
I hope that guy does something good with that old hot rod and doesn't just throw it in the woods behind his house and use it for a conversation piece.
I think its really funny how those guys are questioning if it's a fake or not. It's obvious to me the car blew the tranny and never got fixed. It's full of old trash from the day it was parked and looks like it never moved. It's sunk in to the ground with trees growing around it, who'd fake that? Neat old car, but those "number matching" guys kinda scare me personally.
lets see... which is worth more, a numbers matching 409/409 4-speed wagon, or a regular 62 SS with a complete 1962 dual quad 409 and 4-speed added to it? value is based more on desireability than rareness in most cases. I'd go with the SS.
.... I am digging that HOT ROD with the cut down doors. I got a little red plastic toy that looks just like it.
Yep, if you asked me to pick one I'd go straight for the hot rod hanging from the chain. It's seriously cool even if it looks like it's been parked on the deck of the Titanic all this time.
That wagon is bad ass. I would restore it but with a dropped front end like my chevelle. Sure a #s matching SS is worth more, but if you pull the motor and put it into an SS, you don't have numbers matching anything. The A is pretty sweet. The '34 is neat, but sad. I can't stand that Euro styling.
yo!!! how hot is that MAX wedge!!!!! you DO NOT find cars like just sitting around!! Although...some years back I was driving my 63 Fury hardtop around and a homeless tweaker dude wanders up and tells me he has a engine for my car... 'What sort of engine" I ask. he says 'a 426...want it?' me.."yeah right..show me ..' him..' ok take me up to where it is and i'll show you' So I get this stinking ,filthy prick in my car after i wind open all the windows... and we drive into the bush to a low set ranch style home with surrounding porches...all around the house on the porches are MOPAR V8 engines all stacked up 3 deep. this is OZ you do not see this here ... He takers me in to the house where there is a trail of grease through what was once shag pile carpet to a room and laying all over the floor in peices is a genny MAX WEDGE III engine. 'ME.." OK ..how much?" him.." I'll swap you that toyota ute you drive around in .." Me..thinking..fuckoff ,I'm dreaming here.ha ha the oldest toyota ute in OZ ,and a million K's on it..." DONE DEAL!" We get the ute, load up my new engine and do the deal..no money changes hands until i sell the engine ( chainer style ) a few days later for a very handsome price.
Funny that some of those guys were saying the block might be restamped, like someone would go to that extreme for a wagon and then park it for 40 years. I bet the old guy who owned all that stuff would be a cool person to know.
Wow. All four cars are amazing finds! Had to take a look at the A Roadster in Hot Rod Mag. It's a damn cool car now and I can only imagine how great it was when it was first built! Thanks for sharing this.... Malcolm
Looking at the pics of those cars kinda gives me the willies. It's like seeing a ghost. I know that's a cliche when it comes to cars in the trees, but damn those are some soulful cars in the trees.
Thats what I'm thinking, The 409 I can see. Back then Its just a wagon. But,1 of 21 Alum.clip Max Wedge car............WTF.... That a hard one to let rot in to the ground.
You forget that at one time these things were 'just' old cars, no matter how many carbs or how much aluminum they may have on 'em! Look at your old car mags' classifieds, a five year old car wasn't worth much. The ones that made it to the '70s got smacked with the oil embargo.
I'd like to get in touch with them. I have some info they would be interested in. Addy dwrcjohnson@msn.com
