Ratso and I went to Kansas last weekend to pick up a car and found these east of Pueblo, CO on the way home. They aren't mine, but I've included the guy's phone # that has them. (I don't know him, only spoke to him once.) He seems cool, prices didn't seem too bad. '50 Chevy....w/***le & 216 $2K
I posted these just as a heads up.... I DON'T KNOW THE GUY, AND MAY HAVE GOTTEN SOME STUFF WRONG. Give him a call and talk to him personally. Don't ask me about cars in the background, etc. I don't know any more than I've posted. Call Harold at 719-947-0621.
Yes, those Tempests had a really funky drivetrain. The had the motor in front, slant 4 which was basically a 389 cut in half, then what was called "rope drive" to a transaxle in the rear, with independent rear suspension. That "rope" is nothing more than a big speedometer cable. Pretty crazy setup, excellent weight distribution, never caught on.
I haven't been out that way in a long time, so I don't know exactly where those cars are at. But a lot of cars are still out there all over the place. Right off of the highway is a garage that has a 33 or 34 willys pickup and on the other side of the highway a few streets over is a 40 willys coupe under a carport, covered with a tarp with some hay bails holding the tarp down and a stack of hay bails piled up around the car. Neither are for sale though. I know a guy that used to fly around out there with binoculars looking for cars. They used to have a map with markers on it showing where all the cars were and what they were. They were able to buy quit a few cars too.
Animal, way to go dude, these are some damn fine material at some real fair prices. Helping expose this group of rides to the gang here is what we are all about. Saving fine tin and putting more of it on the road. Thanks for taking the time and effort!!-Sololobo
Oh man, the Falcon, the Galaxie, the Riviera..... you're killin' me! All of those prices seem really fair. Thanks for sharing them with us. Hopefully someone here can pick up one as a project for a good price. Malcolm hmm... the Falcon runs! I wonder if it'd make it back to Omaha?
