I really don't think top chopping is a "trend". It's been around for a loooong time and will be happening for many, many more years to come.

    I also agree with Revhead.

not that my thoughts matter, but the first sectioned car that I really liked was the '55 ford (sorry not quite a shoebox) done by Blue Collar Customs in Sacto. Looked awesome, then they overly chopped it and it looks like someone sat on it. But the work on the car itself is killer.

Chopped 49-51 coupes look almost as bad as chopped Model A coupes.

I think that sectioned shoeboxes probably appealed to people back then more than now because it made such a dramatic difference in the appearance of the car, and made them look more "modern". Unfortunately, all the new cars of today have that same look, narrow (sectioned) body and a lot of glass. In a parking lot today, that car could almost get lost in the crowd to an untrained eye. To me, it looks like it could be the next new Ford.
When I was a kid, I lusted over a 53 Studebaker, it was just so sleek over every other car back then, sort of factory sectioned, now I own one, and it just doesn't really do it for me anymore. Now I want my cars to look old, not modern, and my Stude sort of reminds me of some 70's European car.

It isn't a radical custom without being chopped.
The statement that it is a current trend is very naive.
Ford and Merc shoeboxes have been chopped continuously since 1949.
Sectioned with no chop is double UGLY!

Trend at the moment!!! Where have you been hiding? Chops have been part of rods and customs for a lot longer than you've been into cars. Yes I looked at you profile, your involvement with cars appears to have started in 69. Are all chops pleasing? NO! But there have certainly been more cars chopped than sectioned. In my opinion and that of many others a cars proportions should be divided into thirds. The body to be 2/3 and the top 1/3

A well proportioned chop and section can indeed look cool on a shoebox. It takes a s-load of work and skills.

Anyone who thinks unchoped sheboxes suck should open up a 1959 Custom Cars annual and look at that ground scraper inching through the car show or,Steve Anglins coupe from the Classic and Custom Magazine days.Steves car was built by Charlie Brewer. The sherbet Green thing at the top of the page is a sedan not a coupe which is why it looks well proportioned.Nads,The Hines Bat was not sectioned,I think the trunk was just lowered(sectioned)

I find it hard to believe that people here do not think this is a nice looking well proportioned car.

I don't know when this one was built, but you have to remember that many were sectioned when they were new or nearly new cars. so back in the day they were modern and swoopy. they couldn't even have dreamed up the style of cars we have now. it would have made thier brains explode if they did.

I (personally) have sen so many damn shoeboxes, that if I died tomorrow, I could have only seen half of them, and still say that I saw too many.

They are the 5.0 mustang/Camaro of the Custom world.
