OK, I am sure i am going to catch a lot of **** over this one so here goes.I chopped the roof on my 29 ford sedan 6 inches and channeled 3. And now theres no going back(lesson learned) Now every time i drive the damb car i nott my head up so could anybody point me in the right direction toward buying some small seats that might help this problem I only have 19 inches of base width to work with and any more than 2 inches of base padding would be to much.Hope somebody may have been down this road before UPFRONT THANKS

In my 31 I used second row buckets from an astro van. Threw the bases and head rests away and used them like that for one year. I then had them upholstered and had the guy trim some of the foam off and they looked right at home in there. I had a 3" channel and a 5 " chop and the same width problem due to the drive shaft tunnel.

Shave your head and you'll shink as you get older. Everything will be fine.

In my coupe, I had to move the seats forward a little and then tilt them back. It gave me a couple of inches and actually was more comfortable.

As the guy on Saturday Night Live used to say.............."It's better to look good, than to feel good.........You look marvelous, Daaahling"

    But, is it worth it?

Hahahahaha...I'm here to tell you...hot rods were never chopped/channeled that severely back in the day...I'm old too, so give me some leg room, a long wheelbase, some tunes, A/C & cruise control and I'll drive anywhere...

No going back? Sure there is. It seems that there are more than a few folks unchopping on the HAMB. "It's just metal" as a guy I know says.
Tilting the seat may help a bit but watch your back. If you have to lean back too much on a long ride you might find it just as uncomfortable as a banged-up head and cause leg pain too.
Ironic, but.. I'm under 5'5" (used to be taller but got older and had back surgery) and could manage with a radical chop but don't like the cartoon-look.
    Good luck.

Maybe try early vw bug seats... cut the tracks off, and the backs are adjustable. just a thought.

Well.. leaning them back won't help you feel better. I know from experience. Even in a shorty like me.
Ok, so.. how much comfort room do you need? It may determine which is easier to do. Raise the roof panel (an inch or two done right might not be that obvious), unchop, unchannel, drop the floor pan where the seat is, spinal surgery.
I AM trying to be reasonable here but you have to understand that from the point of view (literally) of a short guy, this isn't a common problem. ;)

That sure would be a lot less work. Shame to dump your barstool seats but it's better than head-bangin'.

I am there. My '31 coupe has 36" from floor to roof. I have Kirkey ***-on-the-deck seats, and it works pretty well. I don't plan on long trips in this car, so the tudor sedan has to get built relatively soon.

Sell me the car cheap and chalk it up as a lesson learned!

I like the seats in the green sedan.

I was going to suggest vw seats but I see old wood beat me to it. I could measure one for you tomorrow if you want to check size. Otherwise only other suggestion I got is how do you like a ******* car?

Get the roof off a Vista cruiser wagon and graft it on.

I used Mustang seats but they were a little to high off the floor. I found some seats for a fork lift a Northern Tool and they worked real good. Seems they were about $60.00. They have many different kinds there, worth a look any way. Good luck.

Celica buckets work well. Thats what I had in my tudor for a while than I went with Jeep cj seats.

try the pontiac fiero? seats, very thin/short on the bottom.

  30. I have Jeep replacement seats by Bestop. The "cl***ic" style has no legs to the frame and is pretty thin. Think A-100 Dodge van seats. You can get them in Summit Racing or JC Whitney.
