I've read that back in the late 40's early 50's one of really primo rides to have was a 35-36 phaeton, probably done as a tail dragging sled.anybody got any pics of any new or old?
Here's one Dave Simard built 2 years ago for a customer here in Mass. It was a 4 door converted to two.
Heres mine in the making, also being converted to a 2 door from a four door sedan. Also a couple of pics of 35 phaetons taken at aussie nationals a couple of years ago.
My dad's '36 that was painted in by Gene Winfield in 1962. Stance, wheels & tires, interior and top were redone last year.
Does anybody have a copy of the american rodder magazine article that they could scan or take images of. If I remember correctly it showed photos of the inner quarter panel structure. I would be interested to see how they did it compared to what I'm doing.
I might still have the issue, I did get rid of a shit load of magazines a few years ago though...no promises but I will take a look.
Al Drake's book Portland Pictorial the 1950's mentions this as well as the Throttle reprints where one of the club roster's states that most members had 36-37 phaetons. The Throttle reprints are from 1941.
Here is one. Its an original chassis and many original parts, but the entire body is fiberglass. It surprised me when I looked at it. I never knew they made bodies like that. The fella that built it is in his 80's and has decided to part with it. I like the look of them!
Here's a link to a nice '35 built in the late 40's and rebuilt in the last ten years or so. It was built and bought back and restored by Wayne Mahaffey. One of my favorites. http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_...cars/40s-50s-built-1935-/wayne-mahaffeys-193/
Can't believe Bruce sold his! Wow! Heres a shot of my old '35. I just sold it too, but will still be able to drive it from time to time as I work on it for the new owner. It shows us mocking up the chopped roof irons on the car... -Shiny
found this one on RM Auctions website. It goes up for auction this week, expecting $60,000 to $80,000 but no reserve. Looks like a good conversion to 2 door. According to the write up it was convered in about 1975. I had never seen it before, looks great.
