The site 'weather underground' says 50% chance of light rain after 7am. Always a chancy thing for Jan Turlock!!
There's a turnstile on the northwest corner of the gr***y parts for sale area...usually an early ford V8 food booth, or at least some corn dog huts there...I'll be wandering around in a black trench with a fishing hat on...I am 6'6" and hard to miss...I will wander around in the vicinity and look for anyone who's willing to show up... BRT By the way...it's been raining all day here in Modesto, for any of you pussies who are afraid of getting wet...
I'm gonna bring a big bag of socks and sell them for $10.00 per sock to all the people with wet feet who weren't smart enough to bring an extra pair of socks.
That's funny...a few years ago some guy bought a bunch of cheap Harbor Freight umbrellas and sold $5 umbrellas all day for $10!
If you come up the 101, just past Salinas you can head twords Hollister on the 156, that connects to 152, continue past San Luis Reservoir to Los Banos, then 165 North to Turlock. 165 (lander ave) is closed south of hilmar @ the river , detours gonna add maybe 30 -40 min so leave early if your going this way <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
I always go, but am gonna p*** this year. I checked weather on Monday, and it called for steady rain for the next 10 days in Turlock, and snow down to 2000 feet. It would have been a 800 mile round trip for me in my truck pulling a car-trailer...didn't wanna do that in the rain, and snow over the G****vine. You guys have a good time! I'll be hitting the GNRS instead, it's only 20 minutes away!
canceled........ha , yeah right . a little rain aint gonna stop anybody . the fairgrounds was already packed when i drove by after work at 4oclock
Cancelled? Somebody be blowing big blue clouds of smoke up your brown eye. Just talked to some people I'm supposed to meet there and they've already been inside setting up and buying stuff.
I'm coming out to try and (hopefully) replace some parts that were stolen recently for my 55' ford truck . See you guys there.
It was a great day. Not cold, no rain and lots of people. I hope everyone selling and everyone buying also had a great day, and another one today...That's what makes the world go round.
i didnt go today......im sure everyone was packing up early . sat. was nice though not as crowded as usual , the weather must have scared a lot of people off. i didnt really get much, just my luck , when i bring money and am acually looking for stuff i cant find **** , but when im broke and go out there i find all kinds of good deals
Bfink55 I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I finally have some money , but I didnt see any thing I really needed. At least I got my exercise in for the month and I met Jimmy McLean(wheelkid) Pretty cool guy, very knowledgable.
It was a great day Saturday - wind was blowing things around some. Didn't see any HAMB signs and couldn't remember the HAMBr's space numbers. Does anyone know the seller that had a small lathe, English wheel etc in the selling area on the north end? The lady announcer on the pa system was goofy - '...license number ****** - please move your car immediately or it will be towed' - repeat repeat, 'the car with the red dog inside, the dog is panting, please come immediately or the police will break out the window' repeat repeat, 'no riding bicycles, skateboards, or driving in the swap meet area - you will be removed from the premisis and you will lose your selling space' repeat repeat, bla bla bla. Sounded like the principal - no chewing gum, no running in the halls....
Saturday was awesome. I met Gene Winfield for the first time, what an awesome guy. P***ed on a pair of new Pete & Jakes crome shocks for $50 (don't know what I was thinking), p***ed on picking up 3 Ford 97 strombergs that were in good condition...all for $100(Seriously don't know what I was thinking!), p***ed on a new pair of '39 Ford taillights for $50 (again, not thinking strait!!!). Bought a very strait and no rust '36 Ford dash for $80. Overall, I should have bought a ROCKSTAR at the gas station in Turlock to wake me up a little!
As usual I found NOTHING. I brought a fat stack of cash hoping to find my next car and came home disappointed. The only thing I bought was the new Hop-Up.
Had a great time! The weather was AWESOME... not as many guys hanging out at our spot... but then again, the crowds weren't there like normal. (BTW, the do the Turlock Swap, Rain or Shine) I think there were a lot of empty spaces... It was also nice to see Brian B*** there... all the way from Texas! I only brought four fenders to sell... they sold early Sat morning... Went and spent some of the money... bought a pair of reversed F-100 solids for $40 for the pair... got a mast jacket that is clean with no gobbledy gook on it for $10... a spreader bar to mock up the Phaeton ch***is for $20... front crossmember for $70... MOROSO valve covers for $10 (I had a pair when I was a kid) and a REALLY killer dash for $30... might stretch it to go in the phaeton... dunno. Here's the BOOTY! Sam.
what a *****! i had been working in manteca for the last month and friday had to blaze north back to washington but from the weather reports just missed all the real **** weather. guess i-5 was backed up for 40 miles in nor-cal and i snuck through oregon saturday in time to miss the ice. it happens every time i'm within 20 miles of the turlock meet i get called somewhere else maybe next year.
I didn't last long Saturday but got what I went looking for.. I pickup 8 Stromberg 97s large logos..Great price. I was out of there by noon..I went for 97s only..sure p***ed up some good buys on intakes..Prices seemed lower this year???????// I'm Happy.. Duane.
Great day Saturday, no rain and warm after the wind died, saw friends from all over, bought a nice 30-31 visor $20, SBF McLeod steel bellhousing with block protector $20, 30-31 garnish moldings $7 apiece, saw Ford 9" posi carriers in good ratios $150-$175, saw a NOS F1 pickup driver-side door for $100 or offer, should have bought that.
I went ready for a storm and freezing cold. good thing I brought my wagon... it was full of hats jackets sweatshirts and gloves. bought 10 pairs of 63-70 California lisence plates. I'll be rich when they change the law next year and you can register your car with them my favorite item was a hand carved 1950 Chevrolet 2 door sedan made from balsa wood. it was either a kit that basically came with wheels and a chunk of balsa wood and instructions, or a set of plans from popular mechanics or something. a little off scale... but pretty cool and only 12 bucks. that lady on the P.A. system was annoying as hell. gonna tow your car, gonna lose your spot forever... WTF is up with that?
We were joking about how she would be the topic of discussion for weeks to come. JEEEZUS she was annoying. She sounded like she was reprimanding everyone and was going to send them to the principle's office. She went from annoying to comical to VERY ****ING ANNOYING! Just announce the illegally parked vehicle twice, then TOW IT! Quit ruining everyone's day because one ***hole can't read the No Parking signs. Just tow his **** away!
