I want to buy Adobe Photohop for messing around with car pictures and drawings. Anyone have any suggestions which version or elements of this program may be best suited? I have a pretty new PC running windows XP.

You can get a pretty cheap version on ebay for adobe CS.(creative Suite).
I have adobe CS3 and it rocks, but it's also what I do. for what your doing CS1 would do you just fine. Anything below that just isn't worth the money.

    cheers

I would get Photoshop elements. You get all of the things you need for doing most of the work on images without the steep learning curve of a full version photoshop and at a much lower price.

If you just want to *mess around* with car pics, I'd strongly urge you to buy Adobe photoshop Elements.......it's up to version 5, which will be challenging enough to learn the basic operations..........forget the full Photoshop as it is expensive and is much harder to learn.....

I use both, but prefer Elements for most everyday photo tweaks.....

You might want to take a look at Gimp. It's free, openly distributed, and has nearly the power of Photoshop.

I can do anything in the Gimp that I could have done in Photoshop, it's WAY cheaper (Free), and a lot easier in my opinion...

Check out the great online user's manual here: http://docs.gimp.org/en/pt01.html

oh, and it works on windows, mac, and linux if anyone was wondering.

Here is a great review by the editors of Cnet on Download.com: http://www.download.com/The-GIMP/3000-2192_4-10073935.html

    It's even on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP

All that, using the Gimp, I downloaded for FREE!

Sorry I posted so much, hope it all helps in your decision.

I recently upgraded from v7 to CS3 -- and am VERY happy with it. I would not use Elements -- it is just to basic and I don't think you would be happy with it
    Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I will look into GIMP. If I need to I can get Photoshop Elements 6 for $99. I can't justify the expense of CS3 at this time. Nice to have HAMB friends who know things.
