I bought a 4' X 8' sheet of that stuff that goes on the shower walls for 20 bucks and used cheap universal carpet. The black stuff on the floor in the photo is construction paper just to get a look for the color.

I have made some door panels in the past using sign board and covering it with a lightweight foam and stretching fabric across it...fairly cheap and easily done...you can also get creative and s***ch the fabric to the foam and make a design in it...and just use 3M spray addhesive to hold it to the sign board...

As long as you use something that is water proof, it's hard enough to keep water out while you're washing it much less getting caught in the rain.

Thanks about the comments on the shifter, I like my performance stuff but not the look in certain cars.

  8. here's a trick that's easy to do... for door panels, take the material you're make the panel out of, ie. waterboard, paneling, etc... glue a piece of vinyl across the entire panel. now, draw a pattern that's pleasing to ya on the vinyl. use a razor blade and cut out that pattern, or cut out around it for the reverse. now, when you glue another piece of vinyl down on top of that taking extra care to press along the edges of your pattern, you'll get a crisp "releif" of your design in the vinyl, similar to bead rolled aluminum panels.... i need to do a quick tech post on this, and hopefully i haven't confused anybody with my explaniation...

you can replicate pressed vinyl pleats really easily this way!!
