A freind of mine has a '41 Plymouth Pick Up Truck with the original drive train (flathead 6cyl, non syncro manual) and he would like to change to a syncromesh manual transmission (3 speed, 4 speed, etc). Does anyone know of any syncromesh ******s that could be swapped in without a whole lotta fuss or major fabrication? Thanks, Mike
I don't know of anything that will bolt-up with a synchronized 1st gear. There's always a T5 adapter kit.
All of the flat 6 engines have the same bellhousing bolt pattern so a bell from anything up to '62 will bolt up. Not sure of the syncro status at that time. FWIW, I am finishing work on an adapter for the flat 6 to use the late 318-340-360 bellhousing. PM if ya want to chat. Gary
Go chat with Don Coatney on the p-15 D-24 board. He's a nice guy, very knowlegable and did the T-5/flat 6 on his car.
That's the third time in a week this subject has came up (not on here, in my own life)...and all 3 time's Don's name has come up...something tells me that'd definately be the guy to talk to...
You can also look at the OD version of the mopar trans used in Aspen Volare, and /6 light duty pickups and vans A833 I think is the number. You still need to deal with an adapter and then think about doing something with the e brake. Here is a link to a fellow who put one in a later truck behind a flatty. http://hometown.aol.com/erlihemi/PwrGiant.html
