    I want to adapt a '39 Ford 3-speed ****** to my Model A.
I know that AC&R and Cling make the bell housing, but would rather do it the old hotrod way with a Ford bell housing.
Could someone tell me what vehicles / years / engines this bell housing came on?
    Thanks, James

Yes, onliest Ford way is Model B parts and some adapting. Be aware going in that there's no such thing as just a trans swap on an A...you are about to lose your front end locater and your pedals!
Ther's an aftermarket kit with all brackets for pedals and radius rod for B or V8 case, or you can adapt with B parts (several tricks needed) and build ch***is like an A-v8, much better...

    I have '36 and '40 top-loader ****** cases.
Are they different from the B?

Gearcase part is same as B, and with some fiddling all '32-48 gears will go into any of them. B bellhousing area totally different, fits B flywheel housing which can, with some messing around and other B parts, bolt everything to an A block.
There are similar aftermarket kits to fit B or V8 trans case to A engine and ch***is.

Specialty Ford in will sell you a '39 ****** to A motor adapter. It bolts to the stock A flywheel housing. They have a kit to use the stock pedal ***embly too. No website.
It isn't an original Ford part if that what you want.
    hope this helps, Gary
