i was thinking of putting an electric fuel pump on my 52 flathead. There are a few reasons why, to simplify the engine compartment (even though they are pretty cool looking), for clearence on the firewall (29 model a), and hopefully more dependable? I was looking at this universal electric fuel pump at speedway http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1638,398_Universal-Electric-Fuel-Pump.html?itemNo=fuel pump

but i'm do not know what psi a flathead requires i know i read somewhere its low. Also i have a two carb intake but only planned on running one (which has been suggested). However could run both they're both rebuilt. I need some feedback from guys with experience in this department.
    thanks

Maximum pressure pump at 4 lbs. The strombergs and holleys will turn into flame throwers otherwise. Install a pump cutout if the engine dies. Definitely install a pressure regulator between the pump and the carburetors.
The original ford pumps are reliable. But not space efficient.
    Buy a proven pump.
Theres alot of junk out there. Always carry an extra pump on the road.

I ran a 6V Autopulse for about 25 years. Two 97's with a regulator and it never missed a beat. I even converted to 12V and kept the pump with a voltage reducer. During that time I saw a lot of guys along the side of the road attempt to enter the Guiness Book of World Records for throwing an electric fuel pump the greatest distance. My Autopulse finally S.T.B. last summer. I looked around for about a week but I couldn't find a replacement that would fit without some hacking. I finally ordered a 6V Stewart Warner from Speedway ($75). It actually was the same size and had the same mounting flange as the Autopulse. Went to Auto Zone and picked up a Fram in-lince filter and it works great. The only thing that bothers me---the pump was made in Mexico and the filter was made in China.

The Autopulse was a bellows type pump that worked well before alcohol was added to gasoline. Now the alcohol turns the bellows to silly putty.

The Carter P4070 pump is one of the few universal pumps still built in the US. IMHO its the most reliable pumps you can buy.

    Hammered,
Hot Rod Heaven has the Carter referred to and I think they have the low pressure Holley regulator, too. Mike is a good guy to deal with.

  9. I bought mine (don't know who made it) from Gene's Hot Rod Parts.

Worked on my 6 volt system & does on my 12 volt system now. He said it would run on either. I didn't believe him but it has. Maintains 3-4 pounds of pressure. Seems like it was about $45.
