Anyone on here have a place to look for period, old, retro interior fabric? We are doing a custom project and are needing someplace to get something killer for inserts....
    Thanks for any help....

I been trying to find replacement upholstery for a '62 fairlane. If you google something like cl***ic auto interiors or vintage auto upholstery, you'll get tons of stuff. The only two I can remember off hand are concoursparts.com and one called wiseguysseats or something like that.

Last year at the pate swap I picked up a couple of boxes of original, still in the box seat covers from the 50's. They fit most split bench seat through the mid year chevys. They were like 10 bucks a box and in perfect condition. That might be an option. Mine will be coming apart at the seams and being modified to fit my car as orginal.

SMS is a great place, but its pricey. They had an exact match for my 58 caddy's interior (cloth and the vinyl) and sent me samples.

I don't have any. You will eventually find your way to SMS in Oregon. They are ABSOLUTELY ****ING HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their customer service is PURE **** and they don't give a **** about you because they are the only game in town. I speak from absolutely ****ty firsthand experience and have heard the same horror stories from others.

Multiple broken promises. Sent me the WRONG fabric TWICE and charged me for it both times.

AVOID THEM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!!!!!

    **** THOSE ***HOLES!!!

I usually don't get worked up over bad service, because I just expect it, but they were terrible and cost me a TON of extra money in shipping, gas, wrong fabric and sewing. Then basically gave me the finger.

  19. Kirk they are less than 10 min. from my place and no one has a better selection of old fabrics. they are in Canby Or. close to N.W. Speed. I use both and have never had a problem. it helps to look them in the eye

DON'T HATE THEM JUST BECAUSE THEY HATE YOU!!

Are you talking about SMS in OR?

I had a good experience with them. Bought all the cloth and vinyl I needed to redo the seats in my cadillac. Guess I got lucky.

Ill second the bad SMS experience also then, I thought it was a fluke, looks like Kirk had the same experience, ill erase the sms link from my post then.

I orderd 4 yards of cloth for an Impala and got 3 seperate pieces all from different dye lots. The colors were so different, it looked like some was NOS and some brand new, and some in between, it wouldnt fly at all, not to mention it was all remnants. They said they dont understand what the problem is if your gonna cut it up into inserts anyways. Sent it back and it took them 7 weeks to get me fabric that was all the same color, and that was calling and h***eling them every week, they had a lot of excuses....The fabric was $85 a yard!

That's nearly an identical story to mine. Except the second time shipment was even worse.

I had good luck with SMS, although it did take a long time for them to fill my order. I got door panels and some vinyl by the yard for my '61 Bonneville and it matched perfectly.

The problem with SMS is, you have to already know what you want, you cant just pick stuff out. Good for restorer, bad for custom/hot rod guy. Maybe look at books of obsolete stuff at an uphostery shop, then try to order from SMS?

  27. There is a place out of Denver that some of the locsl guys use. Western Auto Trim or something like that? I posted the name 3-4 years back. Might still find the contact info with the search?

Thanks for the info...and yes I don't know what I want until I see it...isn't that what custom people do....thats the same problem I have been having with Cars Inc...I talked to the guy described what I was looking for, it was almost like he sent me some other persons sample...WTF!??! I kinda know where I want to start, I know its out of a 56 Bel Air...or so I was told...I understand Kirks feelings...I have delt with places before that I got treated bad, now I will pay more to be treated good...
