I picked some up a a swap meet for around $100. They're always on ebay, but it seems like the staggered hole covers are cheaper and more plentiful. Sometimes hard to find ones at the swap that haven't been butchered for breathers, etc.

I'll bet somebody has some here, so a wanted ad might do it.

I have them on my 283.

Some have a seam ( not as clean looking ) in the casting and some don't.

  4. I read recently you can get them from some of the Chev dealers that deal in the Hi Po stuff in their parts dept.

  5. Those are probably the non-script type. It depends on what you're after LosBoulevardosJames. I have a set off an '86 if you're just looking for the logo style.

the ones with the seam down the middle are original and ones without the seam are re-popped i think, right?

  9. FWIW, I have a pair of perfect staggered covers that I'd trade for a perfect pair of straight covers.

  11. Got a brand new set from local chevy dealer (a long time ago) but they were pretty ruff but polished out nice. As I remenber they were real cheap. Some low life stole em off my old truck.

Years ago ,I used to rent a single car garage sized storage unit to store my Bracket Car. It was right down the street from the hospital where I worked ,so I was there almost daily to check on things. I used to also check the dumpster; you won't believe the things people throw away. That's right, found a pair of the straight across bolt pattern, early style Corvette valve covers. I eventually gave them to an E.R. Dr. I worked with when he bought a 64' Vette roadster. The guy did'nt even have a clue about how to work on the car ,and said he would take them to his mechanic to have them put on. That guy had no business owning a car like that, and could'nt even work on it! And that statement brings me to this joke: What do they call the guy who graduates dead last in his medical school class?......... Dr.!!!!!!

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a Harley-Davidson when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop. The surgeon was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his bike.
The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you question?"
on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take valves out, fix 'em, put 'em back in, and when I finish, it works just like new."[/I]
"Yes, so what's your question?" the doc asks.
"Well, how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?"
The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, and whispered to the mechanic, "Try doing it with the engine running."

What's up with that google ad in FiddyFour's post?

My understanding is that the early ones don't have the seam and the newer ones do. This comes from Dad who still has the '64 'vette coupe he bought new.

I have what apears to be a '57 270 hp Corvette motor in my roadster. Back in the sixt'ys lots of stolen Corvette were donor cars for hot rods. I bought lots of authentic looking parts from Paragon in Chicago.

Poking around the NCRS board, it looks like the casting flaw likely showed up in late '66.

The new ones I bought from Pace, still made as opposed to reproduced, have a seam also.

Scoggins Dickey still has them listed on their website for 33.00 a piece. Unfortunately, they've been discontinued.
You can get them from Eklers for around 80.00 a piece if you want new ones.

Back in the late 50's through the late 60's Chevrolet probably sold 100 sets of Corvette Valve covers for every Corvette they sold. They were one of the most popular dress up items for small blocks around if not the most popular.

Fiddyfour, Good one, but in cardiac surgery the heart is STOPPED and the patient put on heart/lung by-pass (or actually, the other way around, put on heart/lung by-pass and then the heart is stopped). I'm just a dumb Registered Radiologic Technologist ( X Ray Tech ), but after all I've seen, I wish I would have gone to Med. School; not saying it's easy, but the body is basically just an electro-mechanical device; just like our heaps. I even knew a guy that quit his surgical residency to follow what HE wanted to do, (not his parents) and became an ornamental welder, and running his own business. Course' these days, that just does'nt happen.
