About a year ago I did a post looking for info on a car my dad had purchased. it as an 51 chevy that had race in Southern Cal back in the 60's (until about '68). All we knew at the time was it had been a really nice street/show car prior to being raced (in the later 50's) and the builder was no longer alive. A few months ago, my dad was able to get some leads and tracked down the son of the builder. After some discussions the son said he thought he might som some old pictures of the car. time passed and just recently some pictures surfaced. He thinks he has more (when it came back from M&S welding (when the staight axle and custom rear susp was done) Thought I would share them here. First is how he bought it How it sits today (thou the motor and tranny are now in) and now the pictures from back in the day Now the fun part. During it race life the car ran a 301 ci motor (which the sun still has but not ready to sell yet) and went from the corvette set up to a cross ram (the hood has matching diagional holes for it under the scoop), hilborn injection then finally a blower and injection If you look at the last shot, you it was from '66 and at that time the hood scoop was no on the car (2 yrs before the car was put into the garage and never run again).. we are not sure when the corvette tail lights were added, but maybe if we get more pictures we will figure that out...
Bad Ass, maybe a kemp ins't the way I should be building my 52'. Shit just when I think I know what I want ya gotta go and do this to me.
Just an added note. The tan tuck in roll was the original Custom interior. At a later time (guessing the 60's) it was sprayed black.. (the black was in the car still and you an see signs of the original tan in some high wear areas.. It looks like the car will be getting a black tuck n roll interior (tried to talk dad into using the original stuff and just re spray/ die it). From the first pictures it looks like the car may have been white (but its hard to tell from the black and white photos., then painted the metallic tan then it was stripped to bare metal and painted black... then black primer (not sure why)... when the car was stripped we found the shiny black, no other colors..,
Always been a dream of mine....My '50 chopped Fleetline cruiser and a badass 50's gasser like yours. I'm in love...beautiful car, great history!
Damn cool, then and now. I think I'm going to have nightmares about the girl with the birdcage, though.
Right on Ken. I love the tunes - nothing like a vintage ARC/RCA 45 record player under the dash! I like the white version - but it's cool how it got meaner - and coolest that it survived and went to the right hands!! Keep us informed!! Tim
those tailights are cool - can you see them from behind?? Nice job. Didn't you say he was going to run a 6 speed too? That sucker will be quick.
Thought I would update this old post with some additional pictures of the car. It has been done for over a year now.. the car got a big HP stroker motor and 6 sp trans to aid the 488 rear gears on the freeway here is the redone interior, keeping much of the original vibe as possible. for when you need some added traction.. sand bags [ing]http://images38.fotki.com/v231/photos/8/269898/10258137/IMG_5436-vi.jpg[/img] unfortunately the car is forsale (has been) but only for the right price (its on hotrodhotline).. I hope it never sales and I can eventually pull the money together to put it into my garage. It needs someone who will drive it and put it on the track from time to time to get its energy out. the 51 I am building now is going in the same direction but in a street car fashion (no radius rearfenders or straight axle)
