I have an old Indy car model with 80's Indy rubber on it because I put the 'Stones on a Model A I was building. I need to find a pot of money so I can get the full scale version going.
Check out the "VINTAGE SPRINT CAR PICTURE THREAD" Thats going right now.. There all over in it.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236178&highlight=shaw JD
Those are cool................ Id love to see them reproduce the "US Royal Masters".... show car tires from the late 50s early 60s
There is a guy in Mexico, NY that restores them. Steve Miller He's in the book. If he asks who sent you, tell him it's the guy that sold him the yellow 53 Stude....and I want it back.
Wow, I like those!! Thanks Corky!! You know my dad had a chance to sell him a few old John Deere's a few years back, but turned him down, wonder if I could trade one for a set of tires......

What it makes me think about is how much style was applied to the tyres in those days. They are really wonderful objects in their own right where you can really see the care the designers and manufacturers put in. Our current set of Goodyear Landspeed Eagles have the label spray painted over the raised lettering and smudged as if it were done by a school kid who had to do fifty of them before he could leave for recess. These are the most expensive items on our car (belly tank) and given their limited run and cost it wouldn't be too hard to ask for a bit of care about it? I understand it can be considered "rat" but gee, to me it just seems sloppy, especially when we put so much effort into everything else. Shame on you Goodyear, where's the pride? I do not get this feeling when I look at these Firestones though, especially the "deluxe champions". It looks like in their graphic design everything has been considered and balanced (and would complement the same graphic consideration on the period car), and then you can see the consideration of the manufacture of that design; the lettering is all great and clear. I would certainly be ordering some if they were speed rated to 300kph+ but I guess that probably wont happen and the tired old monopoly keeps its money for jam. (Oops forgot about M/T's but that a different story again!) Well done on getting these back out on the road, it feels like at least somebody cares. Reverend Hedgash Speed Deacon
Go ahead and bash Goodyear for their sloppyness on your new tires, but don't be too quick to credit Firestone on the Coker repros. Give all the credit to Coker, because they are the ones producing the tires. I'd bet Firestone has less than 5% interest in the repro line. They just sell their name.
I understand Coker are reproducing them but I haven't actually seen them in the flesh to comment on the quality. I do congratulate them on the reissue and look forward to hearing first hand reports on quality of the production run. My comments regarding Firestone are indeed for their past efforts. Thanks for the clarification. rH+
anyone have any current info on or pictures of these tires. I think they would look *****in on my 37 Chevy pickup
Hi guys... Thanks for all the kind words. The Firestone Indy tires we are working on just now are the first of a few we would "like" to do. We are in the testing phase of the 800-18 and 760-16. I will make sure that we post some pics of the new test tires when we get a few here at the headquarters building. Hopefully sooner than later! Keep on drivin em boys! Corky Coker
Sure hope you guys speed rate them.......or get them DOT certified so we use them! Not like the dirt track tires, for display only, that doesn't make them very useable.
YES! But only when they were junk tires to the USAC guys. If you look at old Bonneville photos you can see the core showing on some of them.
True ................so good reason to hope Coker gets them DOT certified and or speed rated........at the cost of some of their tires I would hope they do the necessary work to make this happen.
Corky, Any update on these tires? Is there a possibility on these getting speed rated to run at Bonneville? Thanks.
Love those tires!!! Some more options for traditional hot rods tires would be great. I must say that www's are getting (or have already gotten) rubbed into the ground at this point.
Those tires just look great, but sadly they will probably be even more expensive than an Excelsior (which I had been eyeballing for so long but had to settle for BFGs instead) and will only look good on one of those expesive repro Indy car spindle mounts, at 500 bucks a rim. Just right for the low budget builder. Yep, that's my whine of jealously for today. Sorry. Gary
