sawzall, thats how the one in the museum at latimore works it was my intial idea actually, i even have some spring leaves sitting here to make the upper bar out of i actually started making these dies for that design, but then i guess got lazy now that it works and doesnt take much effort, I'm leaning towards making the bigger frame and doing them the slow way yours looks great Zach
I didn't think you'd let this out of the bag, way to contribute. Guess I can throw all those spy photos out
What gauge (and what kind of) metal are you going through? Looks like it's aluminum? I use alot of 18gauge steel, just wondering if you're using something in the ballpark. Thanks Zach, it's a great idea! Ben
ive done up to .062 3003 half hard aluminum never tried steel, i dont really have a need to but i think the dies need heat treated to hold up to the abuse of the steel
yes the throat depth is a major problem thats why i cut them off to do the other side and intend to make a deeper one this was just to see if the dies worked really and kevin, who else would i listen to?
a little update here..... new technique for getting louvers in your hood slightly more expensive i guess? heres the rundown fill your car up with gas $35 buy your girlfriend/wife food $25 pay a towing bill for 9 miles $100 buy a radiator $600 buy a fan $50 a replacement intake manifold $25 but that one new louver.......PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!! the generator mount on the intake manifold decided it wanted to just snap off pulled out of the AACA museum with a bit of weight behind my right foot and all of a sudden BANG, i could have sworn the transmission gears would be laying on the road....so i tried for 2nd and it kept going....hmmmm only then did i realize the giant trail of antifreeze behind me! i couldnt imagine what happened, but my girlfriend said she saw the hood lift up i guess the intake snapped off sending the generator and fan front, it hit the waterneck forcing the cap up into the hood, putting a nice round dent in it...one fan blade broke off and stuck through the hoodside making the nice louver you can see in the first picture luckily nothing was hurt otherwise with the motor, it looks like i can just pinch off a few tubes and solder a new neck on the rad after i straighten out the top tank (dont really need a new one i dont think) the extra louver and round dent can stay with the story now attached to them and i dont think im running a fan again....it runs too cold anyways since i put the first 92 louvers in it made for an interesting afternoon oh well! Zach
"made for an interesting afternoon oh well! Zach" Just face it you can't keep up with my jalopy, so stop trying.
LOL yeah it was an interesting day. That was by far one of the loudest bangs I ever heard and then to look out and see the hood come up I was like "what the heck!" But in the end it was a great story and no one was hurt by a rare occurance. Oh and the $25 dinner was totally worth it. Priceless indeed!
Folks would do well to run a search for Zachs threads!!! Thanks man, dig reading through all your posts.
