Just figured Id snap some pics and share. Dragged this piece home this weekend, 49 4 dr. Someone put it (mostly all done) on a Marquis chassis, but the front of the frame has to be lengthened as its a few inches short. It looks like a bear of a job cuz of control arm mounts and where the torque box area mounts. But, it is really rather solid except for stupid little areas all over. Lower doors are nice, usual Merc areas are really nice. Im building a 51 that was a total rustbucket, might fiddle with this after. It has (a positive note) one of the neatest things...it has an accessory stainless splash pan cover. Ive only seen two ever, and this is the only one in person. Ill prolly ebay it as I doubt anyone here is interested in putting stainless ONTO a Merc haha. On well, enjoy!
I need the winch on trailer and sometimes I need the trailer but you're to far for me to borrow it LOL. Got some good parts there. Hell what am I talking about that 4 door looks better than the one I've got!
I bought that trailer and winch a year or two ago, BEST money I have ever spent. Need rear leaves in my truck but outside that its loud and beat but does the job and been around quite a bit...various states toolin down the highway. Yeah I was thinking of selling, I was thinking of parting it, but its TOO solid to do that, and Id be taking a beating if I sold it. Im going to see when I pull the nose if I can make the cuts to extend the frame. If not I have to reposition the wheelwells and use 54 Ford flares to MAYBE make it OK. Cut the top off and make a rockabillyratrodriffic Merc haha.
MAN your as bad as me!!! i brought this one home the other week, to cheap to pass up, so i had to buy it!!
Whats that long curved piece of metal that goes under the doors???? Neither of my Mercs have them! BTW love the 490lb container of Costco laundry detergent! Cheap as hell, doesnt smell great, but works for work clothes!
looks pretty nice just another Merc to add to your 12 others haha you should line all your mercs up and take some pics for us! by the way love the new avatar
they are a very rare set of accessory rocker panels! only a handful of mercs have them anymore, and if i see a merc with them still attached i snap them up!!
Nice Merc's guys. I just got one dropped off yesterday myself. Yours both look like they are in pretty good shape. Robert
Holy hell! It looks like one of those gas station drawings where all the cars are rotting old perfect customs (still with nice rust free bodies). Whats the deal with that car? Do tell! Kickass for sure man.
The lady that I bought it from has owned it since 1954 (originally it was her husbands). It was nosed, decked, and its doors shaved in the 50's. Its got a 56 T-bird motor with an offy intake manifold and 3 dueces. The whole interior is there too. It was a neat find. It does have some rust in the quarters, and the rockers. Everything else seems soild. Robert
And it totally does look like one of those gas station drawings. Another pic of it once I got a set of ok tires on it and in my garage.
Seeing as this is now the official junk mercury thread, I'll post the remote connection I have to one. We are going to be taking this one in soon to finish the car off. It is owned by a guy out in LI and started buy a guy in PA. They had a falling out and the car sat waiting to be finished.
BUILD IT!!!! When this merc stuff gets in your blood its like eating Lays potato chips 'you can have just one"!!!
I've got a question for all the merc guys. I just bought a 49 Mercury 2 door. It has rust issues in front and rear of the rocker panels. Basically where the front and rear fenders bolt to the underside of the car. Is this is typical rust area ? Is there a source for repair pieces other than fender patches and rockers ? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The most common rust-out areas on these Mercs is everywhere. Seriously, they're rot boxes. If it's just the ends of your rockers that are bad, consider yourself very lucky. Just finished having the floors and rockers pieced back together in my '51 and while there are a handful of patch panels available for these cars, the quality is dogshit. You're better off in almost every case to fabricate pieces from scratch. At one time there was some very high quality replacement rocker panels being made, they were expensive but they were top notch. They are no longer available anywhere that I could find. If you can find some of those, buy them at any cost. The currently available ones are a joke. They're basically a long strip of sheetmetal with some 90 degree bends randomly added in.
