Where's the little boy crying doll thing???

You know, for the longest time I thought those were supposed to look like the kid was pee'ing on the tires (this tells you something about my mentality). The thought of a crying child just never entered my mind - because it is so damn stupid.

Oh, fantastic, great, amazing car BTW.

I might be mistakin but I believe thats the restored Devil Duece. That car was built a long time ago 1958 or earlier. The photo I have of it from 58 doesnt have the flames on the cowl though.

Very nice A by the way. Im sure the kid was trying to pay you a compliment, just doesnt understand the updated terminology.

Im sorry if y'all misunderstood me....the guys was probably late forties/early fifties....Thaught he'd know better
And for anyone that wanted to know...I saw quite a few posts on it....Those are 1932 to 1935 Packard wire wheel covers. They were an accessory that youd buy at the Packard dealership to protect you wires from rain or snow. They are mad for 17" wires. I just wanted to have something different...everyone does steelies or wires.
I know alot of you would hit the guy or whatever. I just shrugged him off as another misguided non-hot rodder. Theres plenty of they out there. I just thaught it was a funny story and wanted to share!

Top of my game...not quite. Just remembered seeing that car in one of my archives (Rod Builder) 1958 edition. It was in a the list of 32 top rods and customs.

Scott. I drive a '91 Camry. You sure yer ride isn't a "rat rod"? Your car rules dude. I knew it when I saw it in yer paint booth at the shop a way back. Wait till you see what I am doing to my '54 Chrysler. It is in a shop in Sunland right now being worked on.......tell ya more about it later....KNUX!

Its one of those deals where somebody wants to show they're "in the know" but doesn't realize they're clueless. They think we're all rat rodders and they want to be down with the scene. I had my sedan out in the driveway when I heard "Dude awesome rat rod!!!" this guy was literally hanging out the p***enger window of a junker Cavalier rounding my corner. I just waved, no big deal. Anybody that jazzed about my car I'm not going to give them any grief. If somebody actually makes the effort to ask me about it and brings up the rat rod phrase I usually just tell them that's actually a put down. Regardless of labels Sloppy, you've got one awesome hot rod it turned out fantastic.

I think that a lot of people's introduction to traditional cars/hot rods has come to them thru Hot Rod mags and mags of the like featuring the craze on 'rat rods'. So now whenever someone sees a car of that era (20s/30s) they automatically call it a rat rod thinking that is correct. You can't expect mullet-maro boys to grasp the traditional hot rodding that quick!

Your car looks great. I'm glad you are getting to enjoy it.

oh and to add to the whole rat rod dilemma thing. couple of guys i know who have been gearheads their whole lives have referred to many cars as rat rods, the ones covered in rust, chopped 6 ", s****pin the pavement yadda yadda yadda because thats what they are reffered to in the mags and on TV. once i told them its considered somewhat of an insult, they were actually suprised and had no clue. so i guess what im saying is, some guys just havent been "schooled" on the whole deal. give em a chance. sorry bout the rant.

Put a crybaby doll out in front of the wheel and at least they'll mistake it for a street rod. Oh wait I think it needs to have an MII to be considered street rod status. You better get on that....... All kidding aside, I ****ing love that car man. Looks real nice.

  30. dont trip homie.

my snap-on guy walks in the other day and sees my recently re-rescued '27 roadster cab sitting on the floor in all of its rough glory...just the body, mind you...well most of it anyway....and the first words out of his mouth were...'allright...building a rat rod'...

my response was...'nah...we dont build rat rods, we build traditional hot rods'

the blank look on his face told me that i might as well have been speaking mandarin chinese.

    sigh...
