Very nice and thanks for sharing this with us! Do you have any more pics of the front part of the spring pack, outside of the mounting box? I'm just interested in seeing the "wrapper" that you made, as well as the pivot tube. Also, do you have a better (close-up) photo of the shackle mount? Did you have a shop de-arch the spring? I've been thinking about a similar setup when I eventually get to a hot rod build and really like the way you have yours set up. Thanks! Malcolm
Your setup looks good. Do you have a way to lock the adjustment bolt in place? Nice looking motor mounts.
I too like the innovative use of old part and it looks like it should work well. The only concern I have is how the adjustable end of the spring is held together. You said you wrapped the end of the leaves but I don't see how they are fastened (if it is just the one 3/8" bolt sticking out the bottom in the second picture I think you may need a bit more then that). There is a huge amount of force here and I am just concerned about safety. Other then that I think that you've done a nice job. Good luck.
Hardly an 'A' coupe but a variation on the 1/4 elliptical theme that someone may get some ideas from. The two U bolts are the old style half round (flat on the inside), clamping the spring pack to a base plate that has about a 5 inch length of 1" diameter sprint car torsion bar welded to it. That p***es through a 1" bore in a spud welded through the center of the tube frame at the proper angle. The inner end has the spline of the torsion bar and a stop and adjusting bolt bearing on a wear pad welded to the frame. The left hand one can be seen in the last photo inside the ****pit on the lower left, the right one is obliterated by glare. The other end of the spring is not shackled but rides in a slot or channel which is the top part of the radius rod and pivoting attachment to the rear axle housing which eliminates pinion angle variation. The torsion bar and stops are an expedient and readily available items to fabricate with for this ride height adjustment. Any spring action in the 5 inch length is incidental. A Panhard rod is not shown but is in place in front of the rear axle.
Very nice set-up! I used a Posies set on my rpu, and it really worked out great-anxious to see how it rides. I was able to tuck mine under the skirts of the bed. Almost can't even see the springs. Nice with all the adjust-ability too. Cool coupe, looks good! Dan
