some of my dads car club "stuff" from the late 50's, he lets me "store it" for him. Wally Parks signature on the Charter is what started this whole ba*****t search and rescue mission over the holidays. didn't realize Wayne Horning also has his name on the charter, cool history . Forgive me I am still trying to figure out how to post what and where ( newbie)
Last edited by canadianzed : Today at 07:43 PM.
Tillsonburg, my back still aches when I hear that word...........haha. That is some great Southern Ontario history! Thanks for sharing. Anymore? Norton
Pretty neat stuff there, esp. since it belonged to your dad. I like the you've been ***isted by saftey minded hot rodders card. I have a bunch of old stuff like that and there is alot of references to safe hot rodding and being good samaritans. You can really see how the rodders of yesteryear had a huge PR effort to shake the speeding drunken goon image created by Hollywood.
Are there any records of the members of the Tillsonburg Flywheels Club ? I be interested, because I use to live there in the 50's. HemiDeuce.
That is a treasure for sure. I think there was a list of NHRA chartered clubs in Hot Rod each month in the late 50's and early 60's. I'd have to do some digging to find the boxes with them though.
Yes , I do have the membership list, and do know some of the members who still live in the area. These guys still socialize to some extent with each other, the ones that are still kicking anyway. One of the original cars from the club is still in town, although it is restored to better than new.
Just adding some more to the original file on Tillsonburgs automotive history. Any information on Ascot Park Speedway would be interesting, I know the track was short lived back in the 50's and later (early 70's) someone tried to bring it back (unsuccessfully).
Ascot Park Speedway came back to life in the early 70's as a Mini Stock Track The races were dominated by the Mini Minors with front wheel drive. The rear wheel drive VW's just couldn't do it Some of the names ***ociated were the Smith brothers , Dave and Clifford , the Stainton brothers , Warren and Wayne , Laverne Rice and I think Claire Young may have been involved Ontario55
