Hey, what would Robert Mitchum do? BTW, did that single dad gig too - it'll mean more lookin' back than ANY hot rod. And I agree you are one fine metal beater!
Hey Man thanks for the compliments on the single dad thing! It already means more to me than anything else I've ever done! Thanks for the compliment on the metal work too! Eddie
I say put a banger in it .I think they can be very cool.Doing a V-8 is easy. Not to mention that with the price of gas nowday's a banger makes sense. As alot have said theres all kind's of part's available for V-8s cause evryone run's em be differant go with the banger. Like other's have said the metalwork is amazing we need to see more of it GREGG
260, Early SBF, but nothing looks as cool as a dressed Flathead. Nice job, keep us drooling with the build porn.
I'd love to put a faltty in it but I just can't afford it. Besides I'm probably going to put a hood on it. Thanks again for the compliments!! Eddie
It depends, if you plan on exposing the engine I'd roll with a V8, y-block or flatty. However if you're planning on fabbing up a hood a banger would be nice as well as something different. As others have said, you're a madman with metal.
Ford motors suck, but V8 Fords don't suck as bad as 4 bangers. Can you feel the love? P.S. Awesome metalwork! Keep us updated on this, you have serious skills, even if you are a Ford guy(I just kid my Ford buddies. It's all good, as long as it ain't Jap). Guess you won't be bitching about lack of "T" decklids!
I vote for the banger. If you decide to go the 2.3 route give me a shout. My back burner project is a track T on 32 rails with turbo and injected 2.3. There are some space limitations especialy if you want the car extremly low as I do. Mine is pretty far along but like I said on the back burner(for no good reason btw).
I like dressed up y-blocks (because they are big and badass), and model A/B 4bangers 'cause they are simple and classy. but if $$ are an issue and you are going to have a hood anyways, go for the 2300. A turbo could be fun, but dual Strombergs, a log manifold, some paint, and a handmade, '50's styled valve cover (you have the skills!) might make it seem more traditional. Either way, I am sure you will make it work real nice...
I made the quarters out of 3 pieces. I'm bad at taking pictures when I get involved in making whatever I'm building at the time but I do have some more. I will post them all as a HAMB tech when I'm finished. I'll try to post some more in a couple of days. Unfortunately I'm pretty strapped for time. Like I said I'm trying to have this whole thing done in time for the lonestar roundup. As for the engine I'm still undecided I do plan on making a hood for this car as well though so, that has to be taken into consideration. Once again a heart felt thanks to all the compliments on my metalwork, being self taught it's nice to know you're doin ok! Eddie
WOW!! That is one nice turtledeck!! You could sell all you make. Let's see the decklid, next. That kind of workmanship is nothing short of a gift. As for my 27 on 32 rails, my plans are early days style gow job with a hopped up B, Kelseys, etc. Or you could put a stock flattie V8/T5 in it for now (with the hood) and dress it out later. Plenty of beans for that light a car. Regardless, go with what you feel "the force" leading you to.
Thanks for the compliments! I'll make the deck lid in a couple of days, right now I'm making the dished out pieces just behind the doors and in front of the turtle deck. I made one today as well as the frame work for under the turtle deck today and I'll make the other one tomorrow. I'll take some pictures in the morning and post them tomorrow night. I wasn't in a big hurry to make the deck lid as I like to save the easier parts for later! Unfortunately I can't afford a flthead right now so I'm gonna have to find something else but I do appreciate the input very much. Eddie P.S. I've had a bunch of guys wanting a turtle deck. Does anybody have an idea what one should go for? Thanks again for the help!
That's pretty close to what I charge. Since I don't have a shop yet and work out of my garage I've been charging $48.50/hr. Thanks for the advice! I'm always willing to listen to what others have to say! Eddie P.s. I should have some more pictures today.
shops in so.cal get 85.00 to 95.00 hr. just get a p.o. box her and charge that rate. (LOL) Go with the banger aren't we all getting a little tired of small blocks in hot rods? just my $0.02
It sounds pretty funny but I'm OK with the 48.50/hr at this point. I'm sure i could get more as I don't know of any shops in the area that can do the metal work i do, I wish the oil compainies felt the same way. I'm leaning towards the 4 bangesr especiall since I have a new T-5 sitting here made for one! But I'm still not sure. As I said before I'm building this to show off my metal work but people have to like the whole package. Thanks again, Eddie
Today (Tuesday) it was cold as shit so I quit after making the panels that go between the doors and the turtle deck. They still need some more work but I promised you guys some more metal porn. Sorry I don't have more in progress pictures but it's just me in the shop and it's hard to remind myself to stop every so often to take pictures. Hope you like em! I still haven't decided what engine to go with but I'm leaning towards the 4 because I have a T5 tranny that's in perfect shape already. Thanks again , Eddie P.S. I just realized I should have started a new thread or no one would know there was anything new.
