Comedian Herb Shriner drove it more than Bruce wayne,
He bought it back in 1951.

The drive train was cord 810, which probably made it a bit underpowered given the extra weight. The article makes reference to the cord vacuum preselector which is a bit of a pain.

That car is otherworldly, I've been a huge fan for decades, I've never seen it in real life though.

  12. The thing about this car that is interesting to me, is that Herb Shriner, the comedian, customized the car and opened up the grill, raised the windshield, and painted it purple. He hid it in a warehouse because he went bankrupt and then he was killed in an accident. Bill Harrah bought the car and restored it to it's original elegance and put it in his museum in Reno. It has stood on the ground of Pebble Beach, and that is a tribute to it's history.

Herb also owned a PBY. It was on the ramp at Sky Harbor in Phoenix. It had twin boats under the wing. Beautiful aircraft.

    Hehe..no shit
One of my first Ebay purchases years ago was a diecast of that car, plus a reproduction of original advertising material...
If I ever win the lottery,I WILL own a clone of that car,as soon as I can find somebody to build it for me..
That car makes things hard that don't always want to get hard anymore

    Those coach builders were amazing.
I love those big wheel covers.

  21. The page posted above, enlarged, shows the car when Herb Shriner owned it.

    Hey,

That Mr. Albrecht Goertz, the one who handled the redesign, was
not only the source of design for the B.M.W 507, but also the
designer of the 1970 Datsun 240Z.
I can't say I approved of his redesign on the "Wombat", but I
think he was well qualified for the job.

Kinda looks like a cockroach to me, albeit a deco, super custom one. Great photo's by A32Flathead. Dig Hot Rod Tom's picture of the '25 R.R. coupe.

  27. First time I saw that car,I thought some guy tried to build his own Talbot Lago. Yes,it's amazing...but ugly!

This car always fascinated me ever since I saw a small black and white photo of it when i was a kid...
