I ran both weber 34s as well as 40 mm kadrons on a bug I had in high school. The kadrons are even cheaper than the webers and worked pretty damn well. I was also thinking that a custom log manifold with several single barrelled solex carbs for air cooled VWs would really, really cheap to build. You could probobly pick ups some nice Mikunis from a jap bike and build something cool as well.

Barry Grant has come out with a new carb to replace the strombergs. Probably cost a fortune.

By the time you pay the price for cores and cover your time, and add a little profit cheap is all gone. There's a guy on here who always says

Thats exactly what i was gonna do with my '53 Chevy "G***erfreak"! Build a 3 carb log, and stick vw carbs on it. This has already been proven, and WORKS!

The ****** carb and the 72 pinto carb both fall in the same catagory with the Holley-Weber that cam standard on my 79 turbo mustang(yes, I was the proud owner of one in 79 thank you !!) It was aprogressive two bbl and basically the same thing as the vw guys run. Tons of tuning stuff is available for them (or was ?) . I tweeked the one in the stang to work with the bigger cam and increased boost pressure and it worked excellent. They use a 4 bolt flange , possibly like the rodchestor . Might be an alternative. I was actually thinking of making a manifold to run a pair on my sbc.Who knows, maybe someday!! MIke

I've been playing with the Stromberg WW. They're almost a give-away carb, but even through they're a 4-bolt carb, the back 2 will bolt up to a 3-bolt carb mount, and all you have to do is punch and tap the front 2 holes into the intake... or use 3 into 4 bolt adapters.

Leave the center one stock, block the adjusting screws on the outboard ones, remove their chokes, and make sure when they're closed NO air gets through (file the ****erflies so they shut real tight) and you're set!

Actually, if your carbs close up REAL tight, you can leave the bleeder screws intact!

You can run 3 Webers on a 6 but depending on the motor size you will need to adjust jets. Last pic is the old 40/50's Carter ball n ball next to a Carter/Weber 2bbl progressive carb from 70's.
