Hello, I just bought Plymouth 1939 2d sedan. I took steering box from the car and noticed that it was worn so badly that it need to be change. I allready tried Vega box, but shaft to the pitman arm is not correct and it is also shorten than original. If I lower vega box, steering column shaft is against motor mount. Please can somebody help me with information what manufacture steering gear/boxes are used in this year mopars? Is they some newer mopar steering boxes which fit to this car? I want to keep other steering parts as original.
The frames are similar in the front to around 54 but you will probably have to use the column from the donor as the shafts might be different lenghts. Jeff

Thanks for replies. Is there any 60's-70's manual steering box that can be used as an replacement box? They should be maybe easier to find. I should also change steering column so I will use u-joints.
You could bite the bullet and switch to a rack and pinion. Probably not that much more time or money by the time you're done. I put a Fatman R&P kit on my 38 Chrysler and am glad I did. I went with a power rack, but if I was doing it over again I'd probably just go manual.
I found from Fat Man rack and pinion kit for power steering which is using cavalier power rack. I want to go with manual rack. Is there big differences to put manual rack instead power rack? I mean are dimension the same? Does anybody knows can this Fat man kit be used with some other manufacture rack than cavalier?
Call Fatman on the power vs. manual, but I think it mounts up just the same, and they (TRW) made the same R&P in both versions. That R&P was used in a variety of cars, and not just GM products, in both power and non-power versions, but I believe that is the only one that will work.
Can somebody help and tell me where I can buy Chevrolet Cavalier manual steering rack from 1989 to 1993?
